i have a picture frame on top of my cable box that makes a funny noise when people (or kitty) walk near it, cuz it’s not entirely stable.
i was sitting on the couch and the frame started making that noise, which was weird because kitty was with me, no one else is here to make vibrations. it was a bit disconcerting, and i had the thought that my cable box was about to blow up.
then the couch started shaking, and the pictures on my wall next to me, and the water in my glass was moving. earthquake.
my best guess was the picture was making noise for at least a minute before i was able to feel the shaking, and i could feel it for at least a minute. the shaking definitely lessened, i could still feel it, and the water was still moving for a bit after that.
it’s such a creepy feeling, and this was really nothing. i can’t imagine what it must be like to be in a “real” earthquake. the USGS website is reporting 5.5 magnitude near the ontario-quebec border. it reminds me of the quake i felt as a kid that was centered near montreal, and the one when i was home from college that woke me up (my bed started swaying, but my parents who were already up didn’t feel it), also centered in quebec i believe.
