i had a strange night. the girl at work who intimidates the hell out of me txted cuz she wanted someone to drink with. so i invited her to the big dinner other coworkers were having. dinner was good, watched the awesome comeback sabres game on tv, just chilled. i’ve decided i don’t like wine…makes you so dehydrated. and fyi the bully hill sabres white wine tastes decent, but the sabres red is terrible. after dinner/game she came back to my house to drink more and watch trent videos. so that was fun. but it was weird. she still intimidates me and i feel like i never know what to say to her even tho we have alot in common. yeah.

speaking of watching trent…we watched “and all that could have been”, first time in years that i’ve watched it. wow. i didn’t quite believe S and V when they said it was hard to watch, but it really is. it’s just so different and so not what i’m used to after 2 years of WT era touring. sometimes looking at trent it’s hard to believe it’s the same guy. i was really shocked. that or i was just drunk. ha

meeting tonight and watching the game. and drinking more smart water so i don’t feel like garbage anymore haha (the mcdonalds lunch didn’t help matters, why does anyone eat there?)

u23d movie is opening friday for sure, but unless i call in i won’t be able to see it til wed. i really need to work so…wed it is. hannah montana is still showing in the afternoons, u2 only at night.

dream +

had a bizarre dream about a new nin record, that was supposedly year zero. there was all sorts of hidden stuff in it that had to deal with the arg…like if you looked at a certain part of the packaging it told you a certain part of a song to listen to for a clue…which was turning the speakers really loud during the first song and you’d hear a voice say a number – which i forget now – that was the actual “year zero”, meaning that the album was taking place actually in the late 80s (?). i was trying to get to a computer to write up my review of the album, though i never got past the first song which had a woman talking softly on it, like la mer.

and in that spirit, time for my review of the new econoline crush cd, ignite. last thursday i went up to canada to find the cd. i have no idea where to buy cds in canada so i had asked around, with my first stop being walmart. well nothing is ever easy for me when driving around an unfamiliar place. i looked up where the closest one was, as opposed to just going to the one i know in st catherines. it is at morrison at qew…no problem. except qew doesn’t exit at morrison, the only exit once driving past walmart is thorold stone road. so i exited figuring it’d be easy to back track…not so. never saw the walmart again, eventually was almost back into the tourist area of the falls before crossing morrison rd. cool. took the road, finally found the walmart, which was back where i had exited qew. LOL. and they didn’t have the cd. fine, i’ll go to future shop in st catherines which i also know where it is. the kid working was about 12, i asked if they had the cd and he went to look it up. couldn’t spell it so he asked, and i told him…it wasn’t on screen, but he would have had to keep scrolling to see it and didn’t. whatever. i said i wasn’t from the area and where else could i buy cds. he said best buy. i asked where it was, he said 4th…AS IF I KNOW WHERE 4th IS! i thought it may be close and easy to find so i drove around a bit, didn’t find it. fine off to pen center, which i’ve accidentally found once but wasn’t sure i’d be able to find again. i did find it, but at this point it was almost time for me to head back home to go to the board meeting so i had 15 min to run in find HMV and find the cd. they DID have it. thank god. so off for home…figuring glendale went back into the falls (it doesn’t) so i had to back track back to 401 or 104 whatever the road is, and finally made it back into the states. the cd better have been worth it.

overall i guess it was. it was only $11, and though it’s short, 11 songs (i hate that), it is more gritty and rock-ier than “brand new history”, but nothing like “affliction” and definitely not as good as that or “devil”.
could have been – the yelling vocals sort of bother me, but the song has grown on me alot and is pretty cool
dirty – first single, average
psychotic – one of my favs, has a weird cool female vocal part, very unexpected
get out of the way – very stadium rock and roll with the “hey, hey” shouting, reminds me of gary glitter or something. another fav, it’s fun.
hole in my heart – sorta cliche, slower, not really my thing but not horrible
unbelievable – good music, but the chorus sorta bugs me, not sure why.
the love you feel – i think it’s supposed to be a “razorblades and bandaids” comparable song, the drums even sound similar, but doesn’t hold a candle haha. it’s good enough
heaven’s falling – my #1 fav from the album. rock-y and neat
burn it down – another fav, rock
bleed through – best “slow” one, tortured rock
you don’t know what it’s like 2007 – remix/rerecording of the song from brand new history, it’s got neat piano and sounds down tuned or something. it’s a “hidden track” actually track 23 or 24.

i considered taking sunday off to go see them in st catherines but i really need to work, it’s been so slow everyone’s been having to go home early or sit around doing nothing for 3-4 hrs a night, which is actually pretty horrible. EC will tour for ages around here as usual, so no big deal to miss the show.

monte carlo in vegas is on fire.

trent

trent was quote of the day on perez hilton LOL “While the music industry is doing everything they possibly can to go out of business, can we all make sure to rid ourselves of the Grammys, too? Out of touch old men jacking each other off. ENOUGH!”

dream

it snowed/is snowing. kitty is fogging up the windows watching the snow fall ha

and i dreamed trent called me. someone called and caller ID came up as trent, i tried to answer but the call was disconnected. hours later, another call and i answer, and he asks “why didn’t you call me back?” and i’m like, who is this, and he says trent. so then i’m sorta freaking out, although not at all wondering how he had my phone number. apparently we had talked before for some reason, i just never expected another call. so he’s talking like we go way back, about regular kind of stuff. he was selling his house and someone had come to look at it that day. i kept having trouble hearing him, and then he’d also stop talking and there’d just be long periods of silence. i didn’t know what to talk about, so i asked when the tour was starting. he was silent, thinking about it, and i was like, i know i should know, but i suck as a fan haha. so we were going to hang up but i had to bring up the terminal and the suggestion that he play a spiral only show, or a bridge school type show at the building. i explained the whole thing about the terminal, and he didn’t say anything..and i was like, are you still there. and he said yeah he was just writing all the info down.

also dreamed that dan and i went to explore what was left of spaulding fibre. we don’t see any workers around so we went in and were wandering around. we started climbing this sketchy ladder to figure out what this big tube thing was in one of the rooms. we get to the roof and there were people up there. oh shit. i tried to go back down the ladder but dan didn’t, cuz he figured, we’re screwed, who cares. but these workers totally ignored us, and went on their merry way. then for some reason there was a days inn in the middle of this abandoned factory. wtf. and we had reservations there. so then we were chilling in the hotel room, which had a gift shop selling random things that had been found inside the factory as they demolished it – lots of stuffed animals for some reason. the next day i guess, i want to take a shower, but all the showers were fucked up…no shower curtains, absolutely no room to fit into the shower, etc. i kept getting pissed off, and eventually was like, fuck this i’m just going home to take a shower, i live down the street!

new music

robopanda is horrifying

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jermaine-dupri/a-good-album-is-more-than_b_73413.html article by jermain dupris about the record industry and itunes. he has some points, but keeps stressing the purchase of singles and that if you want a song you should buy the album and not just the single song on itunes….um…did he forget about 10 years ago before mp3s and napster and itunes, there were these things called cassette and cd singles…you could always just buy “the hot song” without the rest of the album. so what’s the difference?

today was the big release day. the year zero remixed album, and rerelease of the joshua tree.

yz remix – overall it seems to be something i’d listen to more than once, which i can’t say about the rest of the nin remix albums. saul’s lyrics over “hyperpower” is neat. and thank god for ali and modwheelmood, for redeeming “the great destroyer” by taking out the worst 3 seconds of nin history. i quite like their version. the fan mix is of “my violent heart” is pretty good. ladytron’s “the beginning of the end” could be absolutely fantastic if not for the synth beeps. leave them in, that’s fine, just turn them the fuck down. why are they so loud? they sound so out of place. otherwise, great remix. the “closer” addition at the end was surprising. saul’s “survivalism” i think is the same version played before the shows, or at least i have heard it before somewhere (and i don’t think i ever listened to the singles…/badfan) “capital g” is mostly obnoxious and i’ll most likely always fast forward. “vessel” doesn’t sound all that different, and it’s hard to improve on perfection anyway :). “the warning” is a great improvement on a rather forgettable song. “me, i’m not”, on right now…i don’t know how people can remix songs like this and still say it’s the same song, or even remotely related (and this one completely isn’t!). why, cuz 9 minutes in they’ll throw in one lyric? i knew when i saw that it was 14 minutes long that i’ll never ever listen to it. oh, there was some trent breathing noises. well that was 14 minutes of my life i’ll never get back. “another version of the truth” string quartet, fantastic. i love that kind of stuff though. the middle kept making me think of the tea party’s “save me”. “in this twilight” is very nice. “zero-sum” interesting, has a groove, pretty good.

i can’t find the vinyl anywhere (er at the places that sell vinyl still), looks like i’ll have to order it eventually now.

and even though i don’t particularly like the joshua tree, i did buy the remastered box set. it has the remastered album, bonus audio cd of bsides and unreleased songs, and bonus dvd with a live show, documentary and videos. and a book and prints. basically i bought it because of the “wave of sorrow” video i posted last week. it just really struck me as being so fantastic, and i’m sorta dying for some u2 that goes back to what they were (even if i don’t like the joshua tree era), poetic and intelligent, and not this fluffy, lyrically disastrous, half hearted attempt at meaningful music that we got on “how to dismantle an atomic bomb”. i’d take JT era over the current one any day haha. my problem with JT…i just don’t think i’ve ever really “gotten it”…i read about what JT stands for, what the songs are about, the meaning, etc etc, but I just don’t get it. there is absolutely no personal connection in the songs for me (except maybe “Running To Stand Still”), they don’t in any way strike me, and for me that’s a big part of the musical experience.

i hope to god they do this sort of rerelease for Achtung Baby :), few more years…

nine inch noels – yes it’s exactly what it sounds like

i’ve decided that britney spears is the new michael jackson. just less talented. but equally crazy/trainwreck.

haha http://badgods.com/audio/nineinchnoels.mp3 wow. just wow. that’s a must listen. the jingle bells part…wow. and it just gets better…is this a sad kermit production? it sorta sounds like muppets at the end haha

and the sabres finally won!!! and they sent zhitnik jr, aka sekera, back to rochester. oh happy day

this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/senior_carded is one of the most emailed stories on yahoo today. that is not news. not even in the “odd news” category. why? because it happens all the time. a guy in front of me in line at wegmans who couldn’t be younger than 75 got carded to buy beer. he didn’t have any ID and the girl said he had to show ID to buy the beer. he was pretty shocked and dumbfounded, because seriously, he’s 75. but she was following store policy (and holding up the express line), and had to call her manager over to get approval to sell the 75 year old beer. i really felt like buying the beer for the guy to just make the line move along. but seriously. not news.

and in this short article: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2007/10/trent_reznor_and_saul_williams.html (much shorter than rob sheridan’s pretty interesting rant on future of the industry) trent and saul talk about the internet release, music sharing, record lables and what they paid for radiohead’s “in rainbows”…i don’t know if it’s serious or not (i’d sincerely hope the $5000 is a joke and i think it is)…but the thought of trent listening to radiohead makes me want to stab myself. ha.

year zero remix

PHYSICAL CD / DVD ROM
This costs a bit more than “regular” and contains a CD that has exactly the same track listing as it’s DIGITAL DOWNLOAD counterpart (see above). The package is a six-panel digipak to match Year Zero along with an insert. It also contains a DVD ROM (not a movie) that contains every track from Year Zero in multitrack format for you to do with what you please. Mac or PC.

We’ve included:
Pre-formatted for Apple GarageBand
Pre-formatted for Ableton Live (Mac or PC)
Demo version of Ableton Live (Mac or PC)
Generic WAVE files at 16 bit 44K that can be loaded into any audio editor

I can make this easy for you: if you just want to hear the tracks as cheaply as possible, get it digitally. The highest fidelity will likely be Amazon (through legal means).
If you want something that’s aesthetically cool and will enhance any collection, get the vinyl. Trust me, it looks great. The extra tracks are fairly minor embellishments to the whole (and surely someone will upload them instantly).
If you want higher quality tracks legally, a nice package AND a complete multitrack of the whole record, get the physical CD / DVD ROM.

**insert comment from NINSUX: “I thought he said all the multitracks were going to be posted online, now he wants us to PAY for them??”
Relax, friend. One second after this package goes to the manufacturing plant someone will kindly upload those missing multitracks and everything will be OK. If they don’t soon enough for your liking, just yell loudly out the window and I’ll do it myself.

As for the record itself, I’m very pleased with the way it turned out. Remix records can be disposable garbage (of which I myself have been guilty of to some extent) but this collection feels good to me. I reached out to heroes, friends and strangers. I encouraged those I approached to do anything and insert themselves as much as possible into the track. Some of the stuff that was done earlier led me to choosing other people to balance things out. The Pirate Robot Midget mix is a fan’s work – I thought it was great, it filled a need and I asked permission to use it here.
It’s always interesting for me to hear my work reinterpreted – I hope it is for you as well.
Upon the release of this, we will be launching the first portion of the new nin.com at
remix.nin.com
We have been working on this quite a while now and I think you’ll like it. It will begin as a home for listening to, sorting through, discussing and uploading remixes the community has made. Hopefully it will be as elegant, useful and fun to use as we envision.

dream

over the last few weeks i’ve been having loads of dreams about nin shows. last night it was nin was playing at my casino. except no one knew about it. i didn’t find out til tickets were already onsale and i freaked. somehow, i guess since no one knew about it, i was able to get tickets to both shows – cuz yes they are so popular in niagara falls, they were playing 2 shows. then i realized i’d need permission to be onsite and typically we’re not allowed to attend any shows. i decided just to ask for the days off and not tell them i was going to the concerts. then there was all this stuff about trying to get ready for the show with this girl i knew on lj and from an orgy show in 99. and then the show was in an airport and we had to go through airport security to get to the show, and they kept giving me a hard time and blahblahblah it was stressful.

the icebowl tickets for season holders is so confusing. we have tickets reserved for us, but no one knows where they’ll actually be. so they could be total crap in the end zone or something. so we could refuse those tickets, get refunds, and just get our own at the public sale, but then what if we don’t get any? and no one knows about bills season holders, and if the tickets they get will be in their football season seats – which will suck because they obviously will have all the good seats. so in the end we’re keeping our 2 allowed tickets. i’m trying to get 3 at public sale. i can’t remember if phill is trying to get more too. and we’ll use whichever are better, sell the others. there was some other complicated stuff with phills brother and friend that i didn’t understand. all i know is i have to be up in 5 hours to try to get tix. it seems tho that we’re looking at 74k attendance for the game. it’s gonna be so great. i asked for the day off since my vacation time will re-up by then but it’s too soon. i need the damn day off. i’ve never tailgated before, i must!!

we’re also figuring out which games we’re keeping this season, and prices for the rest. so will have a list soon for anyone who wants to buy games off of us.

oh yeah, what the fuck is wrong with OJ Simpson? seriously. you get away with a double murder, and continue to be a jackass and now get arrested for armed robbery. he really lost his mind at some point.

so nin.com posted official tour videos on youtube…one of me, i’m not that i posted, and now my all time favourite song – the great destroyer. hahhahahahah still no way i won’t laugh. anyway…seriously, where are josh and jeordie in these videos…it seems the led screen totally cuts off the stage, and i’m assuming josh is behind the screen…ali is up front playing, but no jeordie… i’m confused…

somehow i managed to burst the bloodvessel of my middle knuckle at work today. it really hurts. and it itched for some reason. it’s all nice and purple. and my mouth feels numb. i’m dying.
