the michael jackson conspiracy

a few weeks ago Laura mentioned that the Discovery ID channel has a show called True Crime with Aphrodite Jones which was doing an episode on the Michael Jackson trial. She is a true crime author and reporter who covered the trial for Fox News (i think – don’t hold that against her haha). the show was a 1 hour overview of all the problems that the DA’s case against him had, and went through the evidence (or “evidence”) and how the aquittal came about. Laura mentioned that she had the book Aphrodite Jones had written called Michael Jackson Conspiracy and she let me borrow it.

The book is based upon all of the trial transcripts and officially submitted evidence. Jones wrote the book because once the trial was over she realized that the media’s coverage of the entire trial was completely biased to the prosecution, and that the media had already convicted MJ and only reported things that would make people believe he had done the crimes. They ignored, or glossed over all of the many many holes in the prosecution’s case, as well as testimony from defense witnesses that supported MJ. So the book goes through the entire trial, all the major witnesses, and does a really good job at showing that MJ was innocent.

The Arvizo family who made the accusations are/were nutcases, and that is really really clear in the transcripts of their testimony. Especially the mother. It is pretty obvious they were targeting various celebrities to give them money and “stuff” by using Gavin’s cancer to make people feel bad for them. It wasn’t just MJ….MJ was just the most naive, and most easily taken advantage of. And of course, there is the seed that was planted in 1993 that he was a child molester which makes it that much easier to target him.

Now when I became a fan in 95 and learned about the 93 allegations, I decided they weren’t true. Having read the GQ article “Was Michael Jackson Framed?” http://www.buttonmonkey.com/misc/maryfischer.html it’s pretty clear that the Chandler family (or maybe just Evan, do not RIP) was pretty shady and out to extort money from MJ. Well they succeeded and MJ was branded as a pedophile despite the fact that a settlement does not imply guilt (in fact, in Jones book, his defense attorney thinks the reason for the settlement was that MJs handlers thought that $20 million was a drop in the bucket compared to what MJ would earn through tours and merchandise if he wasn’t involved in a trial…and thus money THEY would be making as well). Having one family succesfully extort money from MJ, and MJ’s continued preference to spend time with children and help those in need…the door was left open for other opportunists to show up. And that’s what the Arvizos did.

I’m not sure that their initial intention was to bilk him of millions through a settlement…or that they even planned ahead to accuse him of molestation, but it is totally clear that they were using him and other celebrities (George Lopez, Jay Leno and Chris Tucker testified about the family in the trial). MJ made it convenient for people to take advantage of him.

The book was very interesting, and included some things that were a bit surprising to me.
1. MJ was a porn freak. LOL this is not something I ever expected to hear about him, as to me, I never thought he was gay, I just thought he was asexual. He could dance sexily on stage and in videos, but in real life it just didn’t seem to me that he was that interested in any one, men or women. But apparenly he had quite the collection of porn mags kept in briefcases in the back of his closet. I guess he had a thing for playboy and hustler LOL. Well good for him, makes him seem like a normal dude. Now if only he had some Girls Gone Wild dvds in his collection….
2. MJ drank alot of alcohol. Again, this is not something I expected to hear because he always said that he didn’t drink or do drugs (well I guess we know now he was a bit of a drug addict). In trying to make the case that MJ was giving alcohol to kids, it came out that he drank on flights, he drank in his room, he drank with guests…he drank. Wine, vodka, tequila, jack daniels…The DA wasn’t able to prove that MJ ever gave the Arvizo kids alcohol, and in fact witnesses stated that the kids had broken into MJ’s wine cellar on their own.

Something not quite as surprising, as I always suspected it…MJ seemed to not have a clue what people around him were doing. The DA tried to make the case that MJ held the Arvizos hostage, or conspired to…which…even without knowing anything about the trial and evidence always seemed preposterous. The book makes it clear the charge was pretty much entirely made up by Janet Arvizo. But in the testimony, witnesses talked about MJs handlers, and how it seemed that they did whatever they wanted, were greedy, and MJ didn’t know what was going on. It always kinda seemed like that to me, because the last 15 years were filled with alot of seemingly bad ideas.

Since the book used the court transcripts and official evidence, it’s pretty clear why the jury acquitted MJ of all charges. The DA just wasn’t able to prove anything, and the things that they considered to be “smoking guns”, Tom Meserau (MJ’s lead lawyer) poked full of holes. The media made it seem like it was an open and shut case, and that he was guilty, but in reality it was not even close.

Once again I am convinced of MJ’s innocence. I do have to admit when the accusations were made for a 2nd time, I had to give pause to really think if he was capable of it. But it’s clear that both the Chandlers and Arvizos were looking for cash. MJ made it easy for them to try to get it.

I have to wonder though…if he had been conviced and gone to jail, would he still be alive? Would it matter if he was alive, but in jail? I suppose not, since even when he got out, I doubt anyone would have supported him or his career after that. I always thought he’d die in jail if he had gone, or comitted suicide, but maybe he was stronger than we all think. Or if this accusation and trial had never happened, would he have had so many problems that led to his insomnia and Conrad Murray and the propofol. What if the 93 allegations had never happened, would he have continued to be the massive superstar he was in the 80s and early 90s, or would his career have dropped off for some other reason. I would really love to hear from Jordie Chandler, as he would not cooperate with the 05 trial in any way…Clear MJ’s name, from the horses mouth, because the general public is never going to read this book, and never going to know the truth.

Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie @ Artpark

gruesome twosome tour with rob zombie and alice cooper came into lewiston for their final tour date (which we did not know). eric, adr2 and bliss and i headed out, we had seats inside the main building at artpark. i had not been to artpark since high school graduation TWELVE years ago gaah! i like it there, they should have more shows.

we had assumed rob zombie would play first, but we were wrong and alice came onto stage to “schools out” and continued on with the majority of the 5 alice songs i know LOL. alice is fantastic. he truely is the godfather of that whole “shock rock” genre and despite not being super familiar with his music he does not disappoint. he broke out all the major theatrics that he is known for – the guillotine, gallows, spike box thing, straight jackets, etc. no snakes though. he played for about an hr 20, and the show was highly entertaining. i don’t know if it’s sad, or amusing, but i spend my time watching shows thinking “oh that’d be a nice shot” or “that’s a great pose for a photo” etc. alice’s show is full of awesome photo opportunities haha. i’m lame.

so rob zombie followed. i had seen rob zombie at ozzfest several years ago as the headliner of the 2nd stage. i remember being surprised at the time that it was really just him on stage wearing jeans, and walking around singing. there wasn’t much show. this time was completely different, as they had “outfits”, and props, and robots, and video and light screens, and it was much much more what i was expecting from a rob zombie show. again i’m not super familiar with his catalog, only knowing his hits, and one recent album. but he was very entertaining as well, and metal shows are always good haha. i

dream

dream: there was a museum with a permanent Spencer Tunick nude art installation exhibit. you signed your life away on waivers, and then you got to walk naked through an exhibit full of those big chinese warrior statues. you couldn’t see the exhibit unless you stripped down. then as people walked through and looked at the (really awesome) exhibit, a camera would automatically take photos to produce the piece of art. the exhibit wasn’t set up like a normal boring museum exhibit, so that the photos ended up being artistic and interesting. then once you left, in the gift shop, you could buy a print from your time in the exhibit (though you might not actually be in the photo). it was a really popular exhibit, surprisingly, and people in line were always talking about the Tunick installation at Central Terminal

dream

dream: was hanging out at a meth lab in a field in the middle of no where in michigan (where they have a problem with meth labs, i remember from a 20/20 type tv show) with a few people who i guess ran the meth lab. they camped out outside the metal shed like buildings where the lab was. because meth labs have a habit of blowing up, we had to be really careful with any sort of fire or heat source. there was some sort of metal pipe coming out of one of the sheds that just randomly started on fire. and i was like um..fire…fiiiiree…maybe someone wants to put out the fire. so a dude found a fire extinguisher and put the fire out before it spread and the lab blew up. but it kept restarting on fire. i was like, maybe we should go, but the people were like no we live here with the lab

dream

dreamed the carlos lived next door to me again, and we were kids. their father had converted them to scientology, so i was at their house trying to get them out of the cult. i was talking to mrs carlo and the girls about just leaving, and they were all wishy washy about it. i kept asking how they could believe in such a cult, and every time i said “cult” i’d yell it real loud. mr carlo came home tho, and didn’t like that i was there talking to them about this, but i kept asking how they could possibly believe in it, and he’d start going on with some brain washed prepared speech. i tried to ask mrs carlo how she could believe in it since she was a catholic. i finally grabbed the girls and ran outside, and was like “yay let’s play outside” which they weren’t allowed to do anymore. mr carlo was really pissed now but for some reason did not come after us. so we were running on my front lawn, and i was trying to make them remember what it was like to be a normal kid not in a cult. so i was like, remember when we used to spin in circles until we fell down and had to be carried to the “hospital” (the other side of the lawn), and then i suggested we play hopscotch. so we went to my garage to find chalk, and stacey started drawing the most insanely complicated hopscotch board in the world. i was trying not to offend her, so she wouldn’t run back to the cult, but i just didn’t understand all the parts of the board she was drawing. then i thought she was cheating, so i was asking again how the board worked and she did get offended and stormed off back home. i was like nooo let’s draw a traditional hopscotch board, so me and lindsay started drawing it, and were just hoping that stacey would come back and leave the cult again.

i realized in my real adult life that i don’t remember what the point of hopscotch was.

dream

dream: i was on american idol, but the songs i’d sing i’d make completely new lyrics up, right on the spot. they was sort of like parodies, like weird al, but spontaneous. one of the judges was the guy from csi: ny, i think his name is danny, the cute one who married the girl from montana (lindsay?) and had a baby…we sort of had a fling going on, so i told him i’d only perform songs that had been on csi, so he’d keep voting to keep me on the show. i was really good tho. haha then this asian girl tried to sing MJ’s “give into me” and she just totally murdered it, all off key and everything, it was awful.

dream

had a dream that would make a killer bad horror movie. don’t know how many details to describe here incase someone takes my random brain electrical firings and writes it out and makes a hit movie from it….basically a bunch of college kids break into an abandoned factory (specifically spaulding fibre) to throw a big party. once it gets dark these zombie creatures come out of no where to kill them all, except the 2 main characters who they push into a toxic pool of water, where they become the zombie creatures too. these weren’t typical slow moving BRAAAAINS zombies, but super quick kiillers, no brains needed.

dream

dreams: i was reading a book about inxs by one of the other members of the band. in the dream his name was mike corleon, but i think in real life, it would have been tim. it was written in very thick australian slang/accent and it was hard to understand, but it was nice to read about hutch and all their stories from the road. then i remembered i had a special inxs cd that was part of some kind of learn to cook program LOL so suddenly i was at my parents house looking for this cd. apparently it had reworked inxs songs that instead were instructions on how to cook. i was mad tho cuz my mom had gotten rid of it.

i was at neverland again, being let inside with 4 other people to hang with MJ who was clearly still alive and living there. paris was at the gate to greet us and let us in, and she hugged us all, and when it came to my turn, it was a weird ackward hug, and i couldn’t think of anything to say to her but “you are a very cute little girl”. when we got inside MJ was talking to his assistant about physics.

foo fest recap

Foo Fotos

back at home….boooooo. tho i am looking forward to my bed haha. but i miss the foos already, and even the foo dog. 🙂

so some observations on la
– it was not as gross as i thought it would be. i never really had any desire to ever go there, i just figured it was all pollution and crime and bums and it’s not.
– hollywood blvd/sunset blvd were not as seedy and fabulous as i was expecting
– there were alot of nice buildings, including a whole ton of old theatres. most of them were completely closed, or closed to the public but available for rentals. there was also alot of art deco which totally surprised me.
– taco trucks were not as easy to find as i thought, and i didn’t get to eat out of one. but we did have yummy mexican twice.
– we did not see any celebrities
– seemed to be alot of things i’d like to see if i ever went again, neighborhoods that looked neat, and all that

some observations on san diego
– i don’t feel like we saw all that much, cuz the weather was shitty, and it prevented us from walking around town
– old town looked neat, wish we had more time to check out the shops
– what we did see seemed nice and well taken care of

some general observations
– the drive up to neverland, and that general “Santa Barbara county” area is really really pretty.
– mj lived on a ridiculous mountain road LOL
– the traffic wasn’t pleasant but it also wasn’t the complete horrifying standstill all the time that i was expecting. i actually think chicago is worse.

that’s all i can remember right now haha

the last of la

last night we headed back to hollywood blvd to madame tussauds. took obligatory pics w the wax stars and all that. they had a pretty good mj statue in a different pose than others i’ve seen.

wed brought the last things on our must do list – neverland and forest lawn. forest lawn was up first. thanks to findagrave.com we knew he was in the grand mauseleum, holly terrace, and that it is all locked and private. and indeed it was. jackie brought flowers and gave them to security to take in. then using pics taken my security and on findagrave we figured out just where he was…not going to lie it was incredably sad to realize it. that’s the closest we’ll ever be to him and it was outside of his grave. 🙁

after that depressingness we hit up the grammy museum which had a small special exhibit of some of his famous outfits and all his grammy moments were available to watch. the musuem is ok…same vein as the rock and roll hall of fame but waaaay smaller. they had another exhibit called elvis at 21, which was a display of photographs from a photog who had all access to elvis at the time. so cool even tho i dont care about elvis, just cool old photos.

after that we drove the 3 hours up to los olivos to find neverland, which was quite the trip ad apparently none of us were paying attention when we passed it the first time and the gps took us another 7 miles up a ridiculous mostly one lane mountain road…where we had to let a fire truck and ambulance pass, passed bikers in an accident (why there was a fire truck and ambluance), eventually passing a forest ranger station and arriving at our location of absolutely nothing lol.

back down the mountain we went and eventually found the gates. the neverland sign has been gone for awhile (and the ranch itself has been renamed sycamore ranch on google maps). what was odd was that a truck left while we were there, then a car arrived, then 5 more cars left…something is going on there and that surprised me. i sorta just assumed it was still empty awaiting a reuse.

anyway, fans had written messages on the rock walls and trees around the driveway, and jac contributed for us as well. took some pics and headed on back to la.

we all leave tomorrow, so off to bed…
