foo fest recap

Foo Fotos

back at home….boooooo. tho i am looking forward to my bed haha. but i miss the foos already, and even the foo dog. 🙂

so some observations on la
– it was not as gross as i thought it would be. i never really had any desire to ever go there, i just figured it was all pollution and crime and bums and it’s not.
– hollywood blvd/sunset blvd were not as seedy and fabulous as i was expecting
– there were alot of nice buildings, including a whole ton of old theatres. most of them were completely closed, or closed to the public but available for rentals. there was also alot of art deco which totally surprised me.
– taco trucks were not as easy to find as i thought, and i didn’t get to eat out of one. but we did have yummy mexican twice.
– we did not see any celebrities
– seemed to be alot of things i’d like to see if i ever went again, neighborhoods that looked neat, and all that

some observations on san diego
– i don’t feel like we saw all that much, cuz the weather was shitty, and it prevented us from walking around town
– old town looked neat, wish we had more time to check out the shops
– what we did see seemed nice and well taken care of

some general observations
– the drive up to neverland, and that general “Santa Barbara county” area is really really pretty.
– mj lived on a ridiculous mountain road LOL
– the traffic wasn’t pleasant but it also wasn’t the complete horrifying standstill all the time that i was expecting. i actually think chicago is worse.

that’s all i can remember right now haha

spy kitties

this is awesome

Most people wouldn’t think of the common house cat as being a potential master of espionage, but the CIA sure did. In the 1960s, American intelligence is said to have spent over $20 million on “Acoustic Kitty,” a top-secret project that used cats as recording devices. The project took a group of specially trained cats and surgically implanted microphones, antennae and batteries into their tails, and then set them loose near the Russian embassy. The idea was that an unassuming cat would be able to stride right up to groups of communist officials and listen in on their conversation, which it could then beam back to agents with its sophisticated radio equipment. The plan was eventually put into action, but the first cat sent into the field was supposedly run over by a taxi before it could make a recording, and operation ‘Acoustic Kitty” was abandoned shortly thereafter.

metallica everywhere

on a normal day i drive 15 min to work and 15 min home. ive been trying to listen to the radio (it’s difficult) and it seems that everytime i am in the car surfing my 6 stations i can find a metallica song on. if I’m lucky i can find 2 ha ha got 2 last night and 2 just now.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas.

Wow it’s been a month since I last posted. I’ve had nothing to say really.

So one good thing that MJ’s death has brought, is getting back in touch with so many friends from “back in the day”. Facebook has made it so much easier to find eachother and stay in touch, and we’ve actually gone back to chat on IRC haha. One thing that has come out of all of it, is that I’m going to Los Angeles to meet up with Emily, who I haven’t seen since London 97, and Jackie who I never met. We’re trying to get some of the other “foos” to join us too. It just started as a whim road trip, doing the MJ “tour” of the star, cement hands, his grave…and ue-ing neverland. Disneyland came up, and the fact that I’d never been astounded Em and Jac and it became part of the trip too. We joked that it’d be awesome if Disney brought back Captain Eo…and LOW AND BEHOLD THEY ARE!!! It’ll be back playing starting in Feb, just in time for our trip (March 4-11)!!! SO EXCITED. AND…I am so excited about taco trucks hahahah. The whole trip is gonna be ridiculous fun. We’re gonna try to see the Price is Right, and get down to San Diego for Sea World too. Any other suggestions on things to do from people out in the area are welcome. I know pretty much nothing about LA since I never really had the desire to go haha.

I recently realized that this is the end of the decade, and that sorta amazed me. It feels like I was just with Carolyn in Toronto for the millenium, freezing watching fireworks. Time is flying for sure. 7 years at the casino, 6 more months until 30….I find new grey hairs every day. It’s stressing me out hahaha I’m going to stay 27 if that is ok.

swine fluuu

i am not a doctor, but i don’t understand what the big controversy is about the swine flu shot. why are people scared of it? why are there suddenly concerns over risks? i see things about it having the potential to cause paralysis due to a certain ingredient that is made from/out of mercury. ok that does sound scary, but…the regular seasonal flu shot has the exact same ingredients, and the exact same risk of paralysis. it says so right on the consent form you sign when you get the regular flu shot (oh wait, i’m probably the only one who actually read all of it). people who get the flu shot every year are suddenly scared of this new shot. isn’t this shot EXACTLY THE SAME but with a different dead flu virus in it? (if it turns out it’s not the same, why not? seems like the regular flu method is pretty proven and would work for any flu virus).

is this fear completely a result of news media fear mongering? are people that suggestible? why do people insist on not believing their DOCTORS when they explain the concept of flu shots?

i don’t understand NY state medical professionals opposing forced swine flu shots. why would you oppose that? you work in medicine, you know all about how these things work, and you know you are going to be exposed to this flu and probably get it. why would you risk getting it and passing it along to more people?

is this all related to some ridiculous fox news fear that the government is trying to control the population through swine flu injections? the thought of that is absolutely absurd. why are people suddenly scared of government population control under Obama, when this was more likely (tho still absurd) under Bush/Cheney? (an aside, my father told me he heard a political joke being told at work – a rerun joke, if you will, from the Bush era – one that makes NO SENSE when applied to Obama “An aid told Obama that a bomb had gone off in Afghanistan and 2 Brazillians were lost. Obama replied, “how much is a brazillian again?”…just a note to republicans, that joke only makes sense if your president is RETARDED).

i just don’t get it. i got my regular flu shot on saturday, and if i am able to i will get the swine flu shot too. i handle money that has been peed on, not to mention the chips and people who blow their nose in their hands, and the degenerate gamblers who could be on their death bed but would still come in and gamble. if swine flu gets as bad as it is estimated to, i will get sick for sure.

fun in court

today was my day in small claims court, cuz my exbf owed me money. court was supposed to start at 9:30 and i got there maybe 9:10, first one there. a few people came in, and there appeared to be 4 cases. we’re waiting and waiting, and surprise, he didn’t show up. quite expected. the judge comes out around 10 and says that no one there had paired up yet, so he wouldn’t be able to dismiss any cases legally until 10:30. yep, none of the 2nd parties showed up so 2 cases were dismissed cuz the person doing the suing didn’t show, and that left me and a guy from a car place who’s defendants didn’t show. still had to go up to the judge to discuss the situation, and i showed him the note i had The Degenerate sign proving that i loaned him the money (the judge seemed surprised that i had a note haha). needless to say, i won. i guess they send stuff to me in the mail about getting my money.

it was irritating though. i understand people being late because of traffic or whatever, but to have to wait an hour to see if someone is going to show up is a bit ridiculous. of any place that should value promptness it should be court, and if you don’t have enough respect to plan ahead and get to court on time, they shouldn’t have to wait for you.

Mike Miller

so i need to say something about Mike. but i still don’t know what. i’m still mad at him.

this is really the first friend of mine who has died. grand parents get old, they die, it’s sad but…that’s the circle of life. this isn’t. mike was a very good friend, one of those people you can say anything to and who won’t judge you for it. he was a great listener when i wanted to bitch about the CTRC (or anything else). we started at the CTRC together, and tho I left the board, I was still around and I always thought we would see the end of it together. when i told him i wanted to leave the board he said, i hope we can still be friends, as if being on the board or not would change that. he took care of everyone else, but not himself as we’ve sadly found out.

the wake and service was immensely sad. every time another volunteer came in, the crying started again. larry had an idea of putting one of our CTRC wine glasses into the casket with him, but suggested that i do it because i was closest to him. mike is being cremated and entombed with his father in charleston (i think), but i still think at least a pinch should be left at the building.

if anyone was going to haunt the terminal it would be russell and mike, and they’re probably arguing…russell getting angry and mike staying nice and calm, even if he was mad.

i’m done. NO MORE WAKES AT CENTRAL TERMINAL PLEASE!

RIP Mike…:(

Mike Miller, current president of the Central Terminal, died yesterday. I don’t have anything to say right now. I told him to go to the doctor a hundred times last week 🙁 🙁 this didn’t have to happen.

Cooking!

i have a billion tomatoes (262 cherry tomatoes and 10 big tomatoes picked yesterday), and i needed something to do with them so i decided to try making pasta sauce. looked up stuff on line, cassie sent me some, and mom. i did just a real easy one mom made herself yesterday. 2 tomatoes (which i took the skins off by putting them in boiling water, then cold water, all fancy like a real cook haha), jalapeno, garlic, onion, spices, olive oil, tiny bit of sugar, and some red wine. cooked for about 40 min by the end of it all.

it’s pretty good. a little bit too sweet, my tomatoes are fairly sweet. i probably would leave out the red wine, cuz that’s all i smell now and after last week in Hammondsport i decided i don’t like red wine. it’s pretty spicy, which is good (for me). and the best part of all, IT WASN’T TOO HARD! hahaha
