ice bowl

so months ago when i said i had found adrienne the perfect christmas gift, i was talking about the Ice Bowl poster produced by Poster Art on elmwood. I’d post a picture except I’m lazy, and the NHL ended up shutting him down (despite the fact that he copyrighted “ice bowl” and did not reference the NHL or either team) so he doesn’t have the image on his website anymore. ANYWAY…i bought one for myself, one for adr, and one for phill. and it was these posters that phill and i were getting signed by the team. phill’s mom had gone and bought a few more, which he was getting signed as well because each time we went, we’d get the same players stopping, so he kept getting new things signed. he put one that had about 15 signatures on ebay and it sold for $711. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m still keeping mine. i don’t need the money hahahah.

also…the NHL dropped the ball on creating snow globes with the logo that they created to announce the outdoor game. a local artist had a bunch made with profits to go to charity. so my mom went and bought 2….but never looked at them. and they are hideous. it’s just one of those crappy make it yourself snowglobes where you insert a photo inside, with a hand drawn aerial photo of the stadium. it is complete crap. and they were $20. she can’t take them back either. so i’m going to try to put one on ebay and hopefully some idiot buys them. i so don’t want them. i’m still trying to figure out a way to make my own, with hockey players inside.

and we lost, again. in a shootout, again. we are in big big trouble.

and i went to shoot Sailing To Rome again, and i think it went better this time, since i shot in jpg not raw 😛

cooking!

i cooked!!! omg. i didn’t make any formal new years resolutions, but i really really SHOULD eat better. so i bought real food yesterday. some ground beef and thin sliced pork.

one thing i can make is chili, which is what the ground beef went to. easy, no problem, made it during the sabres intermission hahaha. after we lost the game (again) i brought out the pork. i have no idea how to cook, honestly. i am super paranoid about under cooking things, which means i over cook everything and then it’s half burned and bad. i tried to spice the pork slices with garlic and oregano, which of course, didn’t really stick. i managed to cook them fine, and they tasted ok (tho not highly spiced). complete with corn and a salad. but now i’m freaking hungry already!!! wtf. when i eat carb loaded meals like pasta and mashed potatoes i’ll be all set for hours. i eat a real complete meal and i’m hungry after an hour. arg.

people at work are doing a “biggest loser” type contest. $100 entry, whoever loses the most weight wins all the money. i guess the target is 10% of your weight. i happened to be in the office, where they have a scale for weigh in and for shits and giggles i weighed myself. i really should have taken bets, because no one could believe i weigh 130lbs. i’m like, “look at the scale, 130!!” so now they want me to enter the contest, since the goal would be for me to lose 13lbs in 10 weeks, and it’s a sure bet that i’d lose. hahah.

the nhl winter classic

or as the rest of the world called it, the ice bowl.

what a great experience. where to start. it wasn’t all that cold, but i was very very prepared with 2 shirts, fleece, jersey, jacket, and a 2nd jersey lol, astronaut boots, 2 pairs of socks and pants, scarf, hat, gloves, etc. thankfully it wasn’t very windy either, which was what i was dreading the most about the outdoor game. we had seats very very high up, but not the top!!! everyone was pretty pessimistic about whether or not 300 level seats would be able to even see the puck, but it was fine. the view was no problem at all. somehow we had A LOT of pittsburgh fans around us, but that’s ok. they weren’t really jerks, and only the people behind us were jerks to them (but apologized at the end when pens won).

the coolest thing was walking into the seats and seeing the rink in the middle of the football field. totally awesome. i was surprised that it wasn’t as loud as i was expecting it to be. given how loud the arena with 17k people can get, especially during the playoffs, i was expecting 74k to be 5 times louder. it really wasn’t, and at times it actually was pretty quiet. maybe it was being outdoors and the acoustics and space. it was still a really great experience, very cool feeling of community (and if we actually had buffalo fans around us it would have been even better hahah). it’s strange that the only times i really experience that community feeling is at sabres games.

it snowed a good part of the game. it started snowing pretty hard right at face off, and the first 10 minutes of the 1st period (including the only pens goal 21 sec in) was pretty funny. so much snow on the ice, the puck would just stop – no icing in this period – and every time a player shot the puck they’d shoot up bladefulls of snow too. they brought the zambonis out around the 10 minute point of each period to clear the ice again. the snow came and went, and didn’t seem to pose as much of a problem the rest of the game.

i really didn’t get cold until the 2nd half of the 3rd period. my gloves were wet from snow by then, hands started getting cold, etc. the game was tied at this point, and i was praying for sabres to score so we wouldn’t get an over time and we could leave and get warm. but no. overtime. pens had no shots in over time, but we still couldn’t score. onto the shootout. while we have miller in goal and he does great at shootouts, we were also up against freaking sidney crosby as a shooter…and yeah, the pens won in the shootout. no big deal. it was a fantastic game and the whole experience was great.

no snowglobes. wtf nhl, you guys are retarded for not making any.

happy new year

happy new year to me. i was kept up, and woken up by upstairs neighbor having sex. or i think that’s what it was. some sort of strange human noise that didn’t make sense to be sex, but couldn’t really be anything else either (except weird snoring maybe). it actually made me think of eric at RIT having to listen to the deaf kids have sex. luckily for me i’m typically at work at that time. otherwise i really will have to seriously look into buying my own house. not putting up with thin walls and noisy people anymore. hah

ICE BOWL!

happy new year

happy new year.

i don’t feel like doing a year in review post, because i don’t remember much from 2007. the most important thing, i will mention, is that i finally met trent reznor. as i said at that time, the highlight of my year. ha. seriously, thinking month to month, i don’t really remember much of anything. definitely nothing important enough to “review”.

i made cinnamon nutmeg ice cream and it’s fabulous. it was better the day i made it than today, having sat in the freezer it seems to have dried out a bit (if that’s possible), but it’s still good. it’s a philadelphia vanilla base from a recipe (not sure what makes it philly style), and i added the 3 tsp cinnamon, 2 tsp nutmeg. very easy. i’ll never have to buy ice cream again ha.

current forecast for the ice bowl on tuesday….winter storm watch LOL 10 inches of snow. seriously.

“SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP VERY LATE TONIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT. CURRENT INDICATIONS ARE THE ACCUMULATING SNOW MAY COME IN TWO DISTINCT BATCHES…THE FIRST TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH MIDDAY…AND THEN THE SECOND TUESDAY NIGHT. AS COLDER AIR IS DRAWN INTO THE STORM TUESDAY NIGHT LAKE ENHANCEMENT WILL ALSO BECOME LIKELY AND PRODUCE LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS. STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS FROM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING MAY EXCEED 10 INCHES IN AT LEAST SOME LOCATIONS.”

Merry Christmas

i should probably post something. merry christmas.

to me holidays are all pretty uneventful. once you’re past a certain age and don’t get toys anymore, it’s just another day. monday was dinner with the parents and aunt trudy and gifts. among other things i got the wide angle lens for my cam i wanted, and an ice cream maker. i worked monday night. tuesday was dinner with parents and trudy again. adr came over later that night, as i had the day off. wednesday was a trip to the casino for lunch, and i managed to find some cheap tickets to the sabres game… (yes i have seasons, we had sold them, and then adr wanted to go haha). the game was fun despite the loss. adr and i hadn’t been to a game together in like…4 or 5 years probably. thursday i didn’t leave the house 🙂 friday was back to work.

i’m a 10-6 tonight, for the first time in months. the ice bowl is tuesday, and of course, i get scheduled 10-6 on monday as well. so my plans to call in on tuesday have been foiled and i’m being forced to call in on new years eve instead. there i just no way i’m working the late shift, then getting stuck over time because there’s no way i won’t get stuck on new years eve, and then going to the game on zero sleep. so screw you guys i’m calling in on the busiest day of the year. you did it to yourself, as i would have gladly worked my normal 8-4. i may just call in after the game as well, it’ll only give me 1 point and i finally have zero points, so it’s not like they can fire me or anything 🙂

now seeing that i’m giving myself new years eve off for the first time in 5 years, i should really do something other than sit home. but i really just can’t bring myself to go out to a bar or something like that. if i had more than 2 friends here who wouldn’t be at work, maybe a house party would be in order, but it’s not. and again, new years is just another day to me…

i think i’m going to go try the ice cream maker now.

hockey

i’m all in a hockey mood since the home and home sweep of the flyers this weekend (thank god). hecht is turning into our clutch go to guy. tho he may not have gotten credit for the tying goal with 7 seconds left last night, it’s all him.

it’s 60 degrees out. and while i’d like to not freeze to death at the ice bowl next week, please don’t let it be 60!

cars

my mom’s bmw broke (again), just in time to pick aunt trudy up from the toronto airport. so the parents are borrowing my car, and i get to drive the miata until further notice 🙂 🙂 they get to slum it in an american car hahaha

*edit* dad fixed the bmw last night so they didn’t have to use my car, and i get it back already. booooo

Dirty Dancing

i just remembered an impressive thing about the berin “subway/metro” system. they had french fry vending machines on the platforms. of course, i had to try it. and omg. they are fantastic. they actually fry french fries in the machine, and they come out in a cup all hot and with salt and ketchup packets and everything. we need those over here.

and wow…further proof that the Spears family is white trash…britney spears’ sister, who is SIXTEEN and stars in a nickelodeon show, is pregnant. LOL. what a role model!

today brought Dirty Dancing on stage in Toronto with Heather. god i love that movie. and the stage version kept pretty close to the movie. they included every major scene, and every quotable line from “for the adults we have..sex” to “i carried a watermelon” to of course “nobody puts baby in a corner”. the dialog was actually so close i could have recited it haha. strangely, there wasn’t a lot of singing in it, and the singing that did occur were by 2 girls from the ensemble, and the man playing Johnny’s cousin (his name escapes me). there were very very small parts that the main characters would sing (old man shumacker sings a small thing, vivian the “bungalow bunny” sings a few lines, lisa sings her talent show songs, the kellermans song etc). a lot of the music was just played, with the sound as if it was coming from a jukebox or record player (which fit in those parts), other songs were instrumentals only played live. the performers were great, dancing was awesome, and as always, musical theatre people make me so jealous. i wish i had talent. a couple scenes were added, that didn’t really add or detract from the story (the one that sticks out is penny telling mrs houseman about the abortion, and both housemans talking about it). my one complaint was that our seats in the lower balcony were obstructed, and i was not told that when i bought them. it wasn’t a HUGE deal for this show – the ceiling of the upper balcony came down into our vision obstructing the top of the set. for this show, there were stairs that went up both sides of the stage to a top walkway which they used to simulate walking around kellermans…some of the songs, the singers and/or band were up there. so not being able to see more than people’s feet on it was not a huge deal. but for another show that has a lot of props at the top of the set, it would be a big problem. spamalot if i remember correctly would be a big problem haha.

we had gone to a matinée and then got dinner…so traffic leaving toronto was rush hour. it took us an hour to get down king st and spadina to the gardner. re-fucking-diculous. i HATE traffic, and not for the obvious reasons, but because it makes absolutely NO SENSE to me. especially highway traffic. traffic on a highway should NEVER stop unless there is an accident. yet traffic was at a crawl if not standstill on the gardner for miles FOR NO REASON. no accident, no construction…NO REASON. and i HATE HATE HATE that. why can’t people just drive!! arg.

in other musical news, jenn’s getting us tickets for avenue Q at shea’s, and everyone at work is planning a trip to see Wicked at shea’s in june (i think).
