nin show #25

well i wasn’t going to post anything until tomorrow but since i had to take care of some important emails why not…

got adr and headed to detroit, not without first hitting a bird with my car. it flew into the windshield. wtf. and this is the 2nd time this has happened to me. anyway….got through canada in 3 hours, but the bridge into michigan was backed up so we lost about a half hour. found the venue no problem, easy directions this time. only the parking lot didn’t open until 4. and it was about 2.30 and we were supposed to meet adr2 and bliss there to go off to michigan central station. through txts we went and met at the hotel room they got.

headed to MCS. holy mother of god. i don’t know if it’s just the awe of seeing it for the first time in person. but i think it’s more beautiful than BCT. my awe for BCT has run out though so…hard to say. hahah. but dear god. amazing beautiful place. we only really had an hour before we had to head back to the hotel to change and get to the show. (all seats so there was no lining up). really only went through the main concourse, after having to call dan to figure out how to get inside. lots of fences, lots of razor wire. but wow. that’s all i can really say at this point. so so gorgeous. i must go back and soon. it’ll haunt me til i do. i didn’t bother with the tripod so i doubt any of my pictures really turned out. there was nice afternoon lighting though. strangely and probably wrongly, it almost makes me happy that it is in such terrible shape. it’s in much much worse shape than BCT, i mean…BCT has roofs hahah…it’s totally trashed, yet some people in city and federal government thought it restorable to be used as the central police station and/or an office of homeland security. those plans went away, but….it was still considered. gives me hope for us. some day our prince will come 🙂 maybe the brit-arab guy who just bought the statler. hahah

headed back to the hotel and to the venue. turns out amira decided to work the show and was going to be working back stage. that is until she got fingered as being a fan and got kicked out hahahaha. so she spent the show in the aisles doing crowd control. we got to talk to her a bit between peaches and bauhaus so that was nice. she wanted to get together after but we really needed to drive home.

bauhaus great again. some really really hot action on stage hahah. anyway.

i would go see nin 10000 more times if i was guaranteed to hear “somewhat damaged” open the show. my lord, best. opener. ever. i think by any band i’ve ever seen, it could possibly be the best live song ever. since the whole place was seats, we ended up 2 rows away from adr2 and bliss, and asked the people next to them to switch. so it was the 4 of us rocking the fuck out like crazy, with everyone probably staring at us. but that song. god. wejrasdfk as so so so fantastic. it was really fun to have room and totally just go crazy.

but then the 4 most annoying people on earth arrived in front of us. first 1 couple, who insisted on talking, well more like yelling at eachother. adr2 actually told them to knock it off and later the girl apologized. but that went out the window as soon as their other couple friends showed up. non stop talking, smoking pot, some kind of groping, just absolutely ridiculous. i cant say i was as pissed off at them as the 2 guys that were in front of me and leighanne at bowie’s shea’s show, mostly because of our row being so much higher than at sheas… they weren’t totally in my line of sight. so though i still was going to punch them, and they actually caused adr2 and bliss to move to the seats behind adr and i, i managed to control my anger. but they were horrible.

setlist….no “sin”…no “reptile” or “dead souls”…added “even deeper” after “non entity”. aannnnd i think those were the only changes. great show of course. i don’t really know why, but i’ve been blown away about how good they sound. i don’t know if it’s the acoustics of being at that type of venue made for musical performances compared to sports arenas or what…but they just sound so great musically. oh and i don’t care what adr2 says, josh freese is an amazing drummer. he went off during “wish” and it was just like, wow.

and i love my boots. soooo much.

day off from the tour, work though boooo…probably won’t be leaving until 11 for cleveland tuesday, need to try to get some kind of sleep. pit tickets though so i want to have a good spot….

nin show #24

toronto show today. kate and i headed up a bit later than anticipated, but it didn’t really matter because we had seats. we had planned to spend the day at edge 102 because of the rumor that trent was to be there at 6. justin had said he was gonna call around and see what was up, so he called me right as we were getting into toronto. if anything was to happen with trent and the radio it would be at the amph because yonge was shut down because of the gay pride parade. so instead we went right to the venue, found adrienne and bliss and hung out. it was warm but there was a breeze so it was ok. even with the sunscreen i managed to get burned. blah. i guess i didn’t put it on as good this time.

peaches was entertaining again. i could understand alot more of what she was saying this time. bauhaus was good again as well. i was going to leave during it to pee, but i was so glad i didn’t, they closed with “ziggy stardust” which was wonderful. i miss bowie. kate liked bauhaus, said she’d go see them at their own show.

so nin. great as always. i decided that “somewhat damaged” is the best opening song i’ve seen them do. it is so powerful and just smacks you in the face. set list was similar to the last one, but we got “sin” instead of something…i dunno i can’t think haha. we got “dead souls” instead of “reptile”. other than that, i think the rest was the same. at least one other person near us knew “non entity” because i could hear them singing it. trent thanked another great canadian audience, said they’d be going away for a few months to finish the new record and then they’d be back. only 2 years after with teeth?!?! a miracle!

at the end of the show kate was converted. she thought that she would like it but didn’t realize just how much she’d like it. she said trent was the sexiest thing shes seen in a long time hahaha.

took an hour to get onto the gardener, so that sucked. need to try to sleep for the trip tomorrow, and i have a massive headache. the new plan, because its all seats tomorrow and with line dramas unfolding we don’t want to sit out all day. so adrienne1 is gonna meet up with her friend in detroit for lunch, and adr2 bliss and i are gonna head to michigan central station for a few hours. hopefully we’ll get to see amira, she’s working the show but is going to try to come out and see everyone in line. i just hope we’re there when she comes out.

nin show #23 – saratoga

Yesterday was the Saratoga show. It was 95 degrees, and disgusting. Adr1, her sister Amy and i made good time getting to saratoga, but then, as per usual, couldn’t find the venue. grrrrr. got settled in and found adr2 and bliss, and waited in the shade for a few hours til things started moving. spiral people have begun to number themselves a la u2 shows. which is good and bad, because we’re driving each day, we’ll never be able to get there early. and then we can’t jump in line with adr2 and bliss cuz of the number bull. whatever. despite how hot it was, and it was still brutal, it could have been way worse. the saratoga performing arts center is in a forest, so there was lots of shade, and it wasn’t just us sitting on cement in the beating sun all day.

so until a few days ago i thought i had a seat for this show, but then it turns out had a ga pit ticket LOL. so that was nice. there were only 100-150 pit tickets so it was reaaaally small. basically just about 2 people deep and a few stragglers who hung out behind everyone. so that was cool. peaches opened…she’s….interesting. she sings the “sucking on my titties” song that was in Lost in Translation. she’s hyper sexual and adr1 said she was pat benetar on crack. hahaha. she’s entertaining. bauhaus was great. i didn’t know what to expect since i didn’t quite care for what i had downloaded of them. but live was good because it didn’t sound so punk-like. peter murphy is about as poseable as bowie. and daniel ash, totally hot. lol

i had cheated a tiny bit regarding the setlist, so i knew we were going to get a more fragile leaning show, and “non-entity.” they opened with “somewhat damaged” which was incredible. great great opener. the only new songs that got played were “the hand that feeds” “only” and “you know what you are?”. they put one of my favourite elements from the fragility dvd into this show, the trent silhouette against the flashing orange screen during “closer” i was excited haha. instead of a screen they have lcd …ladders? metal rigging with lights on it that come up and down during certain songs. pretty cool. and trent hanging on it, pretty fucking hot hahah. but it was like trent hired u2’s ex set designer…the lcd rigging, coming onto the stage and starting with the lights still on, trent wearing a military shirt (so hot)…haha. “burn” rocked as always and “reptile” just never gets old. trent plays an extended piano piece into “la mer” and i could just watch him play piano all day long. “la mer” isn’t quite whole, it goes right into “into the void” which i was really impressed by. it’s not a hugely difficult song, or anything really special. but it’s so much fun, and i just thought “this is why this is my favourite band in the world.” the song trent said he’d never play “down in it” was pretty cool as well, it’s not as sparse live as it is on the cd. OH and “non entity” of course no one except me adr2 and bliss knew it LOL. ppl started looking at us. and there’s hot tambourine action hahah. it was pretty cool. neat “graphics” on the metal things. they had started the tour doing encores but have stopped again. whatever.

dream

ROFL just remembered some dream…i guess i was back stage at a nin show, but it was in a department store. so we were hanging around in the stock rooms. and all i really remember is that trent had crates full of stuffed animals. i guess it was all the stuffed animals that fans have given him as presents. he used them to give to his dogs to play with. so some were half chewed up and others were fine. there was one that was 90$.

and holy crap my credit card bill is $65. i haven’t seen a 65$ credit card bill since the nin tour started last march LOL

it’s been a while..

omg trent! nin played full band version of “non entity” and “not so pretty now” at the kroq breakfast this week. gah! why couldn’t you play those songs at the spiral show! *greedy* hope for a different setlist next month tho! “non entity” very cool and different from the boom box version haha. and “not so pretty now” not at all what i was expecting it to be. it’s a fast rock song. ha. who knew. it definitely doesn’t fit in with the rest of the “with teeth” stuff…and shock of shocks i’m not sure i like it. it’s alright.

more charges from gas stations in florida on my debit card…grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

so anyone around here reading back in 2002 will already know my opinion on NIN’s “still” ep (*ahem* 30 posts in one day when “andallthatcouldhavebeen” was released), but i will repeat in short…it’s one of the best EPs ever. EVER. but having said that, i don’t listen to it a lot. i actually have some odd sort of aversion to it. i don’t really know why. i sort of get flash backs to the drama of my senior year in college, but not completely. and i sort of get into a strange mindset when listening. but i still love it, and think it’s incredible. listened to a few tracks on the drive home tonight and probably will listen to it in bed. i haven’t listened to any NIN since downloading the cabazon boot when i got home from vegas. i threw it in yesterday on the drive home from jackson sanitarium, since it was a long drive where i could listen to “the fragile” discs back to back. thinking about setlists…i could pretty much trade every TDS song currently being played (well not “reptile” but especially “hurt”) in favor of “heresy”, “the becoming”, “ruiner” and “i do not want this”. throw in “mr self destruct” every few shows. that’d be good. take out the behind-the-screen-intermission that now bores me in favor of another instrumental type break like the “la mer”, “the great below”, “the mark has been made” section of the fragility tour (not necessarily those songs, but instrumentals are nice). and i’d do anything to hear “last”. at this point i’d replace any song in the set for “last”. i don’t think i need to hear “dead souls” anymore, and as far as soundtrack songs go i think anyone would die for “the perfect drug” though i’m not sure how that’d translate live…it would still be great to hear. i think i’m good with the PHM songs…for some reason i really can’t listen to that album much anymore. i’d like “sanctified” i guess, if anything. i think i’m done with “something i can never have” now too. it’s amazing, but it can go now. i actually could probably do without “head like a hole” too. not sure what would replace it but that’s not my job. so i really shouldn’t be saying any of this hahaha.

ug, gotta be up early for the clean up. and i totally forgot i have to stay there past 1 to meet with this guy who wants to put together a hip hop compilation (and yes i totally typed “complication”) to benefit central terminal. well we couldn’t be accused of being a white middle class hobby anymore hahaha.

and speaking of complication…heather and i were looking at the art at the show opening wednesday, and i hear 1 note of a song and exclaim “ITS NINE INCH NAILS”…it was “complication”. i was excited. i can name that NIN song in 1 note….hahahahah

and OMG…SABRES! beat ottawa 7-6 in OT. fanfuckingtastic. my pocket was vibrating all night. when the hotel gaming floor bar screamed i knew the sabres tied it at 5…but someone reported it was then 6-5, heard the bar scream again, tied again. then knew we won when they screamed right after overtime started. ha it was fantastic. finally managed to see the highlights on ESPN, connelly makes some fantastic plays man…my mom called after the game to leave me a message that it was “a breathtaking game”. wait til she’s actually AT a game ha.

nin tour retrospectical

a review of the NIN tour…so far…

best show – experience wise: still torn between toronto club 1 and rochester…
best show – band/setlist wise: philly club 2 with trent pissed off and throwing shit
worst show: erie…passing out and getting pulled not my idea of a good time
best drive/travel: the drive from buffalo to DC…not sure why, but there was alot of the 3 of us hysterically laughing at things we drove by…
worst drive/travel: gah the flight from hell buffalo-dallas-los angeles-san luis obispo, the dallas delay, missing my connection in LA…trying to see the white house in DC…driving in Erie.
most interesting “new” city: cincinatti…dunno why but i was sort of impressed by it, even beyond cinci union terminal, and bad directions and signage
worst “new” city: torn between toledo and wilkes-barre…toledo is bitchin
best line experience: reno!! even tho the cabazon line was great too…
worst line experience: wilkes-barre…too damn cold and the wind!
best crowd:…hmm…cabazon of course, except for the asshole mexican and the guy who used my neck to get up off the floor.
worst crowd: toronto arena skinheads
roughest show: toronto club shows…still haven’t been as injured as that…
funniest show moment: starfuckers in cabazon…the curtain getting caught on the speaker stack in wilkes-barre and the resulting spinal tap moment…
most cracked out person: the drug addict in…philly? i forget where haha…in november…who kept punching himself in the head, and then leaned on me with his 105 degree body
most ridiculous fan: devil girl LOL
scariest moment: toronto club 1, security not being able to get a crowd surfer off me while i was completely bent over the rail, my ribs about to break and lungs to collapse…
most twilight zone moment: hearing staind’s “it’s been awhile” 3 times on the radio in ohio, and matthew wilder’s “break my stride” 2 times en route to ottawa…and there was that awful thing with bliss…and the van…*shutsup* 🙂
best tour detour: MERCER!!! LOL
best setlist addition: mr self destruct
looking forward to: a different setlist…and my columbus birthday show
biggest disappointment: nothing special at cabazon and kroc almost acoustic christmas not being acoustic
best people met: the reno crew though i’m terrible at keeping in touch, amira and rolf, Siobahn(i tried, is that right?) and Vanessa, cassie and beth, candace and ryan.

ha, ridiculous dream about trent. firstly i guess adr2 and i had finally gotten to a meet and greet, but it was set up like meet and greets at stores, with the celeb behind a table and everyone waiting in line to go up to the table. adr2 went first, and there was no freaking out or anything. then i think there were a few people between us because it was a few minutes before i went, and she was waiting on the other side with some people we apparently knew. i got up there, and i think trent said something about how he always liked my outfits and how we should go shopping together. and he said it totally fem and i was like, wtf. so i go over to adr2 and i’m like wow trent is SO gay. hahaha. then it morphed into canal fest time, and i was at home and apparently i had a son who was like 4. and trent called and my son answered it. then told me this guy trent called and wanted to talk to me and come over. cuz he apparently was interested in me. then it totally changed to going to canal fest with the cast of roseanne. roseanne kept trying to stab me with a fork.

i forgot to mention in the vegas posts….thursday after i arrived adr and i went to aladdin to try to get better seats. the box office girl was wearing a NIN show pin so i asked for it and she said no, but found one for me. yay. the box office was right across from criss angel’s production office! woo criss angel! of course, he was filming at aladdin for his series on friday – while we were in cabazon – damn it! i wanted to see criss angel! haha

ha! trent dream

dreamed i was back in school. i couldn’t really remember my schedule or my locker comb because for some reason i had missed alot of it. but my first class was some sort of music class and it was in a big lecture hall type room, clam shaped with long tables and chairs and a stage up front. so almost like a concert theatre too. when i walked in trent was walking out of class. the teacher was handing back our tests we had taken on…trent reznor of all things. she was putting them at random on the tables so i had to find mine and find a seat. mine was on the same table as trent’s test so i sat there figuring that he would come back in and sit there. i got a b+ on my trent test and i was like, wtf i should know all this stuff. so i was looking at what i got wrong and one of them was like “who did trent give $1.38 to, to buy a coffee in 1992?” LOL i really wanted to look at trent’s grade cuz i figured he should know all this stuff since it happened to him but i thought it was rude so i didn’t look. someone else sat in that seat and i was all grrr. but then we all had to move down to the front of the room to the stage because trent was going to do a demonstration. so i was sitting front and center and he was on stage in just jeans and a burgandy shirt and a baseball hat, informal much like a sound check. there were some other people from bands there, and the teacher explained that they were there to coach trent on how to use voice inflection to change the meaning of a song. so he starts this song, and he is singing so that he sounds mentally retarded. and i burst out laughing, he hears me and he bursts out laughing. but these people and trent continue with this song and dance thing singing like they’re retarded. hahahahah. class ends and my next class is english, i can’t find the room tho cuz it had been so long since i went to it. i get in and mary from work is there. so i sit with her and she had skipped music class. i told her i was going to skip too but was so glad i didn’t cuz trent showed up and the singing like a retard was the funniest thing i had heard in forever. hahah

wtf haha
