Orgy Detroit

exactly 5 years ago danielle and i met orgy at water street in rochester…kinda neat…

tonight’s theme was found on a tshirt of one of the band members of one of the (5) opening bands. it said “welcome to detroit” it had a gun and bullet holes and then said “sorry we missed you last time”….but let’s start at the beginning

headed out around noon and got to detroit in very good time. took a slight detour once we got off the highway because we’re blind and missed the road. ended up at the city airport (not metro). adrienne called her friend to see if she knew where we were and where to go. turned around and turns out the street we wanted was pretty much right off the exit and we somehow missed it.

so we found harpos and yes it’s in a ghetto-esque neighborhood. parked in back of the venue, hung out by the bus but they seemed to be done inside and already getting on the bus. i’m a retard…we’re standing there and adr goes “hi!!” and i look and it’s this really attractive guy with spiked hair who i thought was johnny haro. fyi johnny haro was the drummer in econoline crush during the “season of econoline”. i was thinking, why is johnny haro here? yeah it was bobby. MY BAD. i’m a bad fan LOL.

anyway…went and had one of the scarier fast food moments of my life. went to KFC to use the bathroom. the entire counter was behind bulletproof glass, with those turn tables that you put your money in, they turn it and take it, and give you your food. the only time i had seen one of those before was in a gas station in niagara falls. so yeah…kfc was scary. went back to get in line. doors were at 6. talked to a few girls who were in line behind us, got inside and the venue was…weird.

they use harpos for metal shows and its a night club. so there were 3 levels with a bar, dance floor, and mosh pit. they had lovely signage saying “enter mosh pit at your own risk” and “Absolutely no stage diving”. wanted to steal but…that would have been tough. the stage was over 6 feet tall, with no barrier or any kind of railing. so if you wanted to be up front, you had your face to the stage. we hung back a bit through the FIVE openers….

yes FIVE. i thought there was going to be 2. wrong. 4 “no name” bands, then godhead, then orgy. the openers weren’t horrible, but they weren’t superstars either. godhead was great. enjoyed their set alot. it amuses me that people mosh to a beatles song (elenor rigby) and that most of those people probably don’t even know it’s a beatles song.

so then orgy. gah. the show was so fantastic. we started off in the middle, ended up in front of paige. ok someone please tell me when he learned to be so fucking sexy. like. o.m.g i always thought he was way cool, and hot, but daaaymn. he was like oozing sex. so hot. haha. same set list as the toronto show. 107 kills me every time. during blue monday it turned into an orgy dance party, and people started hoisting themselves up onto the stage. of course others followed and there were tons of people up there. then through that song and the following 1 or 2 people continued to go up on stage, hug/shake hands with whoever, go back down. by the time the club got people on stage to stop everyone from climbing up it felt as if we were the only people who didn’t go up LOL. the crowd was much more into the show and much more responsive than the toronto one it seemed. and the band seemed to like everyone coming up (to a point). the boys seemed to be having more fun than last week.

during the 5 openers we had talked to this girl from canada who was so boppery and adorable. she managed to get on stage a few times, so i was happy for her.

had a “moment” with paige which was lovely, cuz he’s the only one i didn’t get to meet years ago when this all began. i was totally looking forward to talking to them outside after the show.

so yeah. great fucking show. leighanne and adr hoisted me onstage after to rip a set list off. the roadie tried stepping on me twice, i’m like PLLEEAAASE I BEG! so he let me have it. haha i rock.

well…while roadies were setting up orgy’s stuff there had been a weird pop noise. the 2 girls we had talked to in line were next to us and she joked that it sounded like a gun shot. we laughed, no big deal. it was sorta high pitched, sounded like a child’s pop gun or fireworks….

midway through the set jay says for everyone to be careful on the way home tonight because there was a shooting behind the club…i thought he had said people were shooting up so i was like, well…whatever. the show ends and we leave, to find cops everywhere, police tape all around where the tour bus and equipment trucks for the bands were…they had shut down the highway next to the club…because there was a shooting. !!!!!!!!!! welcome to detroit. this really just made my night. it amuses me to no end because i kept asking people what the neighborhood was like, and i got “it’s not that bad, it’s not down town or anything…but it still is detroit” LOL. and there was a shooting.

so i took a bunch of pics of the crime scene, leighanne ripped a piece of police tape off for me. i loved it. seriously. it made my night. i can’t believe it LOL. poor orgy’s bus was trapped in the crime scene. there had been a limo in front of the club and we figured they left in that since they couldn’t take the bus and leave for ohio…who knows what will happen. have to remember to look in detroit newspapers tomorrow to see if there is an article about it. ROFL

i’m just so seriously amused. LOL. just perfect.

oh, and i got propositioned for sex by a passing car LOL. and before the show some cops pulled up and asked who was playing. he was hot so i invited him to the show. he said he had to work. bummer lol.

the girl from canada is going to send me copies of her pics (cuz they let ppl bring cams in, but figuring they weren’t going to i had put mine back in the car)

from the detroit free press:

“Man killed, another hurt in shooting outside club

One man was killed and another wounded Wednesday night in a shooting in the
parking lot of an east-side Detroit nightclub, police said.

Officer Glen Woods said the shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. outside
Harpo’s Concert Theater, 14238 Harper.

An off-duty Detroit police officer told investigators he was at the nightclub
when shots were fired in the parking lot, Woods said. The officer went outside
and saw a man walking away from a gray vehicle.

The police officer identified himself, and the man pulled out a gun and began
firing, Woods said. The officer ducked behind a utility pole and fired back.
The man again shot at the officer before fleeing on a pedestrian bridge over
I-94.

The men who were shot were later found inside the gray vehicle. They were taken to St. John Hospital and Medical Center, where one was pronounced dead and the other was listed in temporary serious condition. By Cecil Angel”

seems like the “shooting” we heard inside was most likely not THE shooting…because godhead was playing around 9, so it wouldn’t be timed right. oh well. we can still pretend we heard it lol.

Orgy Toronto

wow yesterday was amazing!!!

i love orgy.

so…the show. i wore my fake hair and it only sorta hurt, and it didn’t get pulled out so it was wonderful….anyway, headed out around 5 with leighanne adr and james. we were meeting danielle and her friend erika at the show because they spent the day in toronto. i figured we’d eventually find them. turns out while driving down bloor someone walked right in front of my car…and it was danielle LOL. so we caught up with them, stopped at a restaurant/bar for some of us to eat, then headed to lee’s palace to wait in line for doors at 9. danielle met a bunch of the boys again while we were eating, which is totally cool for her.

lee’s palace is super super small. smaller than showplace. so it was fabulous. aphasia opened for orgy. they’re signed to jay’s label. they were really good. young too. james bought their cd after the show, gonna have to burn it for myself. the lead singer looked like a cross between james, ian, and tommy gnosis haha. so that was cool.

and orgy…gah. what to even say?!?! it has been far too long since we saw them. ended up in front of amir and paige. there was no space between the “barrier” and stage (it was a padded rail attached to the stage). the show was great. jay had some mic troubles, and apparently was a bit sick so paige and ryan were helping with vocals. it was paige’s birthday, so one of the roadies brought out a cake for him and everyone sang happy birthday. it was so fun. the set list was something like:
(the order is messed up)
suckerface
dissention

107 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
fetisha (!!!!!!!!!!)
blue monday (jay’s mic stopped working during the “you spin me round” addition, unfortunately)

the show made 2 more orgy converts, and james seems to have a good time too. gah. so great. they make me so happy. ryan looks like such trash though. bad bad hair. they’re such a fun band. i totally want to go see them again. gah love them.

headed home after the show. got hassled by the nazi border guy, got home around 2:30 and crashed. great great night. yay!

A Perfect Circle Toronto

i don’t know how i ever questioned going to the rochester show on monday. lol really…i must have been temporarily insane to think i didn’t want to go to it anymore. good thing i didn’t sell my ticket to anyone else.

a perfect circle is seriously the best band out there right now. ive said it before, i’ll say it again, and i’m sure i’ll say it even more in the future. maynard is the best male rock vocalist. period. wow. as soon as it started i had a big stupid grin on my face. they opened with “vanishing” which is kinda an odd choice, but it worked really well. i’ll get the set list eventually. but my comments.
– i love “blue” on the album. it’s one of my favs. it sucks live. it just totally doesn’t work.
– we got “brena” instead of “rose” from the first album. it was a nice change, i think i only heard brena at the boston show but i’m not sure. i forget about brena, and that it’s such a pretty song. maynard’s voice is so beautiful in it.
– “the package” is really cool live when it kicks in towards the middle. the guitars are just piercing
– “the nurse who loved me” is infinitely better live than on the album. it’s one of the songs i could do without, but the way they change it live it so cool
– maynard holds the note in “the outsider”, for “what a mess” and i think it’s more impressive than the “judith” note. that’s saying alot, since his voice on “judith” is just like, gah!!
– they played “the noose”. i totally didn’t expect it and it was wonderful
– this kid behind us had a funny shirt on that said “i’m like a superhero with no special powers and no motivation” hah it made me laff

the rest of the day…ikea didn’t have the lights i wanted. must be too new or something, will have to check the other store in a few weeks. i didn’t do my hair or makeup til i got to heathers. my hair looked so rad, but i dunno what i did when i did it, but it hurt like hell. so by the time we were finishing at ikea i was dying from the pain so i had to take them out in the car. booo. it looked so cool. *whine* i think i might have had them too high on my head maybe…cuz they didn’t hurt yesterday when i wore them around the house. i switched tickets with heathers friend, so i could sit with her instead of by myself. nice kid to do it for us. i had seats on the side of the arena, and heather’s were directly across the arena from the stage. so good view the whole time, and it was wonderful

orgy is going to kick so much ass omg i can’t wait. heather said she’s gonna go now, cuz it’s on her birthday, and james said he is coming too. ha i get to dress him up la la la anyone else want in on the orgy?!? the more the merrier. i decided i definitely won’t be able to wear the fake hair to orgy cuz it’ll just get pulled/tornoff/destroyed when i’m up at barrier so i’m gonna get my hair cut off after vacation. i think i might have seen a style i liked on this asian chick at the show tonight. yeah..me…black hair, how asian do i look now? lol

took a few dumb pics that maybe i’ll post tomorrow.

haha my dream calendar for today is “car” and it says…”finally, some dream pros say cars symbolize your current relationship. hopefully it’s humming along.” and maybe its just me, but my mind immediately jumped to blow jobs. LOL may your relationship be blessed with many blow jobs…i apologize for that. i’m over tired

David Bowie Toronto

oh my bowie…

morning was not pleasant. the drive was not pleasant. stopped at ikea breifly to look for butterfly chair covers, which they do not sell. made our way to air canada center, got raped for parking (25$ yikes) and took the subway a bit downtown. as soon as we got to toronto i felt infinitely better, and was getting excited about the show. went to hard rock cuz the radio station was doing a pre-show thing there, playing all bowie videos and stuff. ended up having dinner there, then walking down yonge to urban outfitters. i got james the greatest thing EVER. as soon as i saw it, it was like ROFLMAO MUST BUY!!!!!!! i couldn’t stop laughing it was so fabulous. hehehe. there was something i was going to get for brian too, to help with his spending problems, but it was ridiculously expensive for how…big the cheese factor of it was. but anyway…they had butterfly chair covers!!! they had velvet quilted covers onsale for 20$ so i had to get one. yay. by that time, doors were going to open in a half hour, so we got the subway back to the ACC and waited outside in the drizzle to possibly get a ticket upgrade to 1st row.

the opener was not macy gray thank god. it was the polyphonic spree…who were interesting to say the least. they must have went on at exactly 7:30 cuz they were already playing when we went in, and only played 3 more songs after we got to our seats.

So here is the setlist:
Rebel Rebel – while it’s not one of my favourites, i tend to find it slightly annoying at times, it’s still a great song. great energetic opener.
Modern Love – !!! yaaay he hadn’t been doing that song regularly (if at all), so it was way cool. and for whatever reason i love the song. so it was way cool
New Killer Star – new song from reality that of course i don’t know cuz i don’t have the cd – i’m a bad fan
Fame – an everlasting cool song. it’s just so funky and rad
Cactus – the song that perfectly sums up the time after nate left. it’s laughable how perfect the lyrics are “a letter in your writing doesn’t mean you’re not dead” and one of my favs from heathen
All the Young Dudes – i hate this song. but it’s a big sing along song, so it wasn’t horrible lol
China Girl – yay…so many real bowie fans hate this song, but i still think its fun.
Never Get Old – song i don’t know, but it was good hehe
The Loneliest Guy – ditto
The Man Who Sold the World – love this song. it was my first bowie song i knew, thanks to nirvana covering it on unplugged hehe
Hallo Spaceboy – !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAY only one of my favs. fabulous. it’s got such a killer beat to it gah. was so happy when i saw this in the previous set lists. outside is such a great album
Sunday
Heathen – mellow heathen songs, very pretty. i forget that i like heathen cd hah
(band intro, Bowie remarked that he could swear there was someone smoking weed in the place, hee — welcome to Canada, Sailor)
Under Pressure – !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Days – didn’t know this one either
Slip Away – this song made me laugh the first time i heard it, talking about uncle floyd, like wtf is that…haha. it’s so pretty
Space Oddity (stylophone version) – like 2 seconds of it lol
Looking for Water – new song that was really cool
Ashes to Ashes – it was cool, i understood words i never understood before
Hang On to Yourself
Quicksand
I’m Afraid of Americans – gah. gaaaaaaaaaaah. !!!! gah. that’s all i can say. such a friggen great song.
Heroes – i almost cried at this. so did leighanne i found out after LOL. the song is painful. in a good way. he sings it with such emotion on the recording i can’t listen to it at times. and it sorta hit me. the lyrics. just…dunno. hit me.

Starman
Five Years
Suffragette City – leighanne wants me to put “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” her fav song, she loved it. it was so fun.
Ziggy Stardust – super fantastic closing song. ziggy plaaaaayed guitaaaarrrrrrr love ziggy

only disappointment: no “life on mars?”….here’s hoping for the shea’s show.

fantastic show. really really fabulous. he is incredible….a great show despite the fact he’s like…3 times my age. he is just the ultimate in cool. i totally can’t wait for shea’s. i might contact the college street guy and see if he can get me a press pass to take some photos. i’d die. lol. it can’t hurt to ask right?

looooove bowie  he’s so charming. he’s got such a lovely speaking voice. and he doesn’t friggen age!!! lol before “man who sold the world” he was talking about his first time coming to the US, the first song he heard on the radio was his…that song…and he was beyond excited, and shouting out the window “i’m on the radio!!” then he says, i’d probably be that excited if they ever played me on the radio now LOLOL. it was great.

so yeah…drove home. i have a wicked insane headache. i feel like my one eye is slightly falling out…it’s a strange feeling. took my painkillers, but they haven’t kicked in yet. we might go watch popmart now cuz we listened to u2 in the car. but it might make me cry…”one” on popmart kills me. gah.

A Perfect Circle in London, ON

i don’t know what to say or where to start….but…

first off….
what i love about canada: i can go 85 mph and still get passed
what i hate about canada: they’re retarded ass backwards address numbering on streets

got out of class earlier than i was going to have to leave it, so i got on the road about 4. took 2 hours to get to london, the drive wasn’t too bad at all. it’s all familiar territory cuz it’s the way we go to detroit. but once i got to london it took me a half an hour to find centennial hall. why? because canada numbers things retardedly. this is the 2nd time in recent history (aka a month) that i couldn’t find a place because of retarded numbering. the directions were easy, the location was easy…550 wellington street. no problem. it’s 1 friggen exit, turn right, and bam….wellington street. i drive down, i’m in the 700s, no problem. the numbers are going down, no problem. suddenly i’m in 300s with no sign of any centennial hall. wtf. so i figure i passed it somehow and turn around and head back up the numbers. still, i don’t see it. i stop at a tim hortons and ask. they didn’t know where it was, but they said their address was 7 something, so i had to go left down the street again. right. makes sense. still no centennial hall. wtf. i turn down this street where big hospitals are, cuz i think, maybe you can’t see it from this street. no. no centennial hall. i stop in another tim hortons. this time 2 customers knew where it was. it’s downtown. i have to continue down wellington til i get into downtown london…where the numbers decrease down to 1, and then go back up again….!!!!! WTF! who numbers streets like that?! canadians do! so after all that, i did find the place, and parking was 3$…yeah. 3$ canadian. i was like holy shit that’s cheap.

anyway. waited outside for over an hour cuz they didn’t open doors ontime (surprise) and it was friggen freezing.  i actually thought at one point it was snowing. but it was just rain. yeah. it rained. thankfully, just sorta misted and not a torrential downpour.

inside, it was another good setup like the boston show, where there was an outer elevated ring area…up 2 steps. so i immediately claimed my space along the railing of this elevated area. perfect unobstructed view of the entire stage, and no possibility of getting killed. some guy started talking to me randomly. his name was phil, he’s a musician, and he’s 26. he was sorta asking me the stupidest small talk questions ever like… “What do you think of canada?” um, it’s just like the US….”where were you during the big blackout?”….”do you shop in fetish stores?”….yeah. k. anyway.

first band, danny carey’s band Pygmy Love Circus. yeah. sucked. the music was alright, and of course the drumming was amazing (he’s drummer in tool), but…yeah. i don’t think so. i didn’t think they were as awful as some of the reviews i had read, about people being pissed they spent 40$ to see APC and have to suffer through danny carey’s shitty band calling them fucking assholes. it wasn’t fun, and i didn’t quite get it, but at least it wasn’t velour.

now this venue had the most nazi security guards i’ve ever seen. when we get in we get our bags searched, no problem. we get patted down. no problem. nothing unusual. but they wouldn’t let anyone take lighters in. so any lighters they found when searching you were thrown in these big bins (you could get them back after i guess). they were sniffing everyone’s cigarette packages for pot. still, that’s not super nazi or anything. so we’re inside, and the Pygmy’s had played, and this Phil guy is still hanging around with his friend, but they went down the 2 steps to the “main floor”. some guy gave him a cigarette and a few of them were smoking. security saw them and came over, and started searching phil for a lighter, and he got thrown out. and they were doing this to anyone they saw smoking. holy nazi. they had really good crowd control though, only 2 crowd surfers, there was no moshing and falling and me almost breaking anything like in boston.

these 3 other guys started talking to me before APC and everyone was amazed i came from NY to see the show. it’s like, it’s only 2 hours, it’s really not that big of a deal. they were asking me if i had a boyfriend so i just said yes hahah.

so…the show. gah. anyone who doesn’t recognize how friggen amazing this band is needs to have their head (or ears) examined. because they are one of the most talented and interesting (lyrically and musically) bands out there right now. possibly ever (imo of course). seriously. it might not be your “thing”, they might not play music you’re really into, but give me a break. if you’re a music fan, you should be able to recognize good music even when you don’t like it. and this is a fucking. good. band. holy shit. i was completely blown away.

i’m going to assume the set list tonight was the same as the other setlists, which would be this:
Pet
The Hollow
Magdalena
Weak and Powerless
Orestes
Rose
Thinking of You
The Package
Three Libras
Thomas
The Outsider
The Nurse Who Loved Me
Judith

Maynard, as always, sounded amazing. he is definitely, hands down, best male rock singer ever. the stage set up for the show is maynard on an elevated platform in the middle back of the stage. to the left is james iha, to the right is josh freese. the front left is twiggy/jeordie, and front right is billy howerdel. maynard acts like maynard, but doesn’t have his back to the audience the entire time like with tool. but he’s still maynard…maynard the freak. twiggy and james iha still look like their in their old bands…just their mannerisms and what not. billy howerdel is an amazing guitarist. and well josh is the one man orgy…

the new songs were definitely interesting and intriguing, i really can’t wait to hear them. of course now that i saw the show i’m allowed to listen to the new songs from the bootleg haha. the old songs sounded as good as ever. for “thomas” danny carey and one of the pygmy guitarists came out to do extra drums and guitar, really rocked it out. sounded great. i don’t think they’ve been doing that at every show either, so that was really cool. the whole time you can’t help but be blown away by maynard’s voice. it’s just…so amazing. “judith” rocks as always, cuz how can that song not rock live? you get everyone screaming the lyrics, it’s a good time.

gah. i walked out in a complete high daze with a big smile on my face. haven’t gotten that since u2 2 years ago. it was fantastic. i really wish i could get my hands on at least one of the toronto shows next week, but i’m not going to pay above face value for them. ah well….

i had some wicked urbex dreams i forgot to mention…one was about getting into the psych center through a side door that went into a giant library, still full of books up to the ceiling. there were workers inside, but they didn’t notice me, and when they did, didn’t really care that i was there. but the building was sorta boring, cuz it was mostly empty and clean, so i was disappointed. the other one had to do with the terminal, and i can’t really remember it anymore. but they were awesome hah.

Lacuna Coil in Rochester

lacuna coil is so cool.

after running around to see my mom, and get my film, and all that, headed out with rocco to rochester for the lacuna coil/anthrax show. found the place just fine, but once we got there…absolutely no where to park. something must have been going on at the beach because there were people every where (and omg my comp screen just turned blue…wtf is wrong with my monitor, i thought it was getting better). more people than should normally be at the beach, even tho it was a nice evening. finally found a place to park and had to walk through a big dirt field to get to lake ave, and penny arcade. the place is small, and so was the crowd. some local band, loopus or something, played first. not good. lacuna coil followed. same set list as the buffalo show, 40 min or so since they weren’t headlining. they sounded awesome, the crowd was into them. the 2 indian guys who were in front of me and heather at the buffalo show were in front of us at this show too. the one looked at me and sorta nodded. later, after LCs set, he came over to me when rocco went to get a drink and started talking to me. he remembered me and heather, but he didn’t want to talk to me before cuz he didn’t want me to get in trouble with the guy i was with LOL. and oh yeah, during LCs set, some kid was standing next to me and kept trying to hold my hand. weirdos. so talked to the indian guys a bit. they went to the cleveland show, but not toronto. e-town concrete apparently aren’t on the bill anymore, they went to do ozzfest i guess, so anthrax was up. they were surprisingly good, considering i knew nothing by them, and was expecting music i wouldn’t really be into. for whatever reason i thought scott ian was the singer tho, and that’s very wrong hahah. he plays guitar.

i’ll say it again, i love metal shows. hah they’re so much fun. the deafness was really bad though. we were sorta close to one of the speakers during LC, and my ear was clicking. that’s always a bad sign. that’s what happened after the kick to the head at orgy, the 5 feet from the speaker incident at APC in boston, and STP at UB…but after leaving, and being in the car, i’m not all that deaf, so that’s really really good. it’s not clicking anymore. we stopped at a rest stop for food on the way home. the whole thing wasn’t awkward at all or anything, plenty of talking (mostly about work haha), so it was good. had a fun time. turns out i worked with his sister at hard rock hahah.

soooooo tired now, but i don’t think i’ll be able to sleep. gonna work on getting my pics up. i got some really nice ones again.

Lacuna Coil in Toronto

so glad i sucked it up and went up to toronto to see lacuna coil despite my illness. i started to feel sick again after i had my waffles for breakfast, so i went back to sleep for awhile. got up around 3:30 and i was still iffy on going. i ate some mashed potatos and figured we’d give it a go. if we got up there and i felt like shit, we’d come back home.

so we headed up there around quarter after 4. got in around 6ish. had a bit of trouble finding the place, mainly cuz i was expecting something bigger, and cuz it’s not labled well, and cuz the addresses on queens street are way fucked up. they get big then small then back to big again. ended up going both ways down the street from spadina til we just parked and backtracked on foot. found the place, first band wasn’t til 9:30…so we had time to kill. got food at the gorilla monsoon next door, then walked down queen towards yonge. stopped in urban outfitters again to see if maybe what i wanted to get for carolyn for her bday was on sale. it wasn’t. and it was just way too expensive for me to justify buying it. it’s something that would get looked at once probably, and it wasn’t worth that. oh well. went into the eaton centre cuz adr wanted to buy a belt, but everything was way too friggen expensive. headed back down queen to the horseshoe. killed 2 hours, waited to get into the back show room. toronto was gross, hot and smelled like garbage. and i usually like the smell of cities in the summer, diesel and what not. but it was gross.

the first band was In Vein. oh, before them, they were playing music like normal. the song that was on, i was like…i know this song. why do i know this song. at first i thought it was velour, but then i realized it was the other crappy band who always opened for the tea party. the full nine i think they were called. it was definitely them. then they played their coffee song that was their single, so that was the clincher. it sucked album version too. anyway…In Vein. metal, somewhat bad vocals. that’s my main problem with real metal bands…the vocals always suck. the music is always cool.

second band was surface underground. metal band, chick singer, pretty decent. i was happy it wasn’t another guy screaming haha. after them we went up front for lacuna coil. they rocked, again. they played about an hour and a half, which was surprising. the buffalo show, since it wasn’t their show, was mainly stuff off comalies, but they went back to the halflife EP, unleashed memories and in a reverie for songs. they did “falling again” (which is the more rocked out version of “falling” which was on the self titled EP) surprisingly. gah, it was so great. so happy they played it.

other than the retard in front of me dancing like she was at a rave, and whoever smelled like cheese, it was a good time. there was this absolute GIANT standing next to me, sorta in front of adr…he was HUGE. but during the encore when the crowd was going a bit nutso, and this one guy kept crowd surfing, he pushed them all away. so that was cool. gotta find out if the person who bootlegged their toronto show from may recorded tonights show. i guess i have to sign up to the mailing list again to find out haha. there were a few video cameras there, but i just want audio.

never found heather, dunno if she ended up going or not. i took her cell phone with me to give back if i saw her. i still haven’t gotten the envelope thing from fido yet to send it back. haven’t gotten my business cards either. they better come soon or i’ll be pissed.

getting home was another case of my never really being lost, always sorta knowing where i am thing. i sorta knew where i was, and where i wanted to go, and i did eventually find the gardner again. so no problem.

omg. i got email from amanda wild. amanda was one of the people i was in london with. last time i saw her was in NYC in 1999. you don’t understand how great this is. she was looking for me and found icenine.org, sent me email to the webdesign inquiry account which i forgot i even had (good thing for business haha). omg. so excited. she is one of the coolest people ever. last i knew she was going to art school in dc, but there was no way of contacting her. so it’s been 4 years since i’ve heard from her. she emailed me in july, i hope she writes back. her email was so cute, typical amanda. said she was looking for the sara she was with in london in 1997 and nyc in 1999 haha. to write back if i was her. gah. it makes me smile. i’ve missed her.

Ozzfest 2003

oh how i love guitars and double bass drums….ozzfest today. headed out early afternoon, arrived around 1:30. walked around the 2nd stage passed different booths they had set up. we ended up seeing the end of despwa’s set, chimera, motograter, and vovoid. we wandered around the whole time, didn’t exactly watch the 2nd stage, but we heard them. we ended up wandering to the merch tent which was set up next to the FYE autograph tent. and just in time for disturbed to be making an appearance. now the deal with the autograph tent was, you needed a wrist band to get an autograph. and to get the wrist band you had to buy that band’s cd. even if you already had it. for the extraordinary FYE prices of 18$. good money making idea, bad idea for fans. we ended up standing against a barrier next to the tent and watching the whole thing. all of disturbed came to sign stuff. then after them was korn (2 members) and zakk wylde. danielle debated buying another untouchables cd to meet korn, but figured it wouldn’t be jon davis…well it was jon…and fieldy. so we watched them for a while, then zakk came out on the other side of the tent – closer to where we were. he had a dick of a manager/entourage guy who made all of us leave. why? we were on the other side of the barrier just hanging out, not doing anything wrong. so security made everyone standing there get out. that was lovely. the whole time it was off and on sprinkling, but nothing too bad. we wandered over to the lawn section cuz there were more booths around, and by then they were letting people into seats. got our seats, sat around, it started raining really hard. well i wanted to catch some of cradle of filth’s set, so we went back out in the rain, which wasn’t that bad, to watch a min or two of their set on the 2nd stage. they had a cirque du solei type acrobat girl as part of their show. back to our seats – just in time. it fucking downpoured. the rain running off the tent was crazy. lots of soaked people. and lots of mud.

so the main stage show started with chevelle. they were ok i guess. in the middle of one of their last songs (well, it turned out to be their last), everyone turned around to watch the people who started throwing mud on the lawn. cuz people are smart. so the singer goes, turn around, the show is this way, not that way. and i guess he got pissed enough at everyone turning around to watch the mud, that they just stopped playing. he said to turn around again, then said, “fine, you’re not getting the rest of that song” and they all walked off. LOL. it was great. then some guy threatened the mud throwers with arrest. disturbed was next. i will admit that they were better this time than the first time at UB before STP. but i still do not like them. and i still do not like david’s little wrestler act on stage. and as adr said, i do not like the preacher act, calling everyone his sisters and brothers. but david did do a nice little shout out to their “fallen brother” marilyn manson, who couldn’t join us today, and how no one should be able to tell us who we can watch, and what we can listen to etc. it was funny, all sorts of people had “where the fuck is marilyn manson” shirts on. which brings me to a question. how the hell can six flags disagree with marilyn manson, and ban him from appearing on stage, but let cradle of filth play, when they have more antichristian rhetoric than manson could ever create. such hypocracy. just because they know of manson and his whole stupid image, they think he’s evil, but they got super anti christian people playing on second stage, cuz they have no clue who they are. pisses me off.

korn was after disturbed. korn fucking rocked. they played about an hour, which was expected. opened with blind, then twist, and adidas. or got the life. i dont know they order, but they also played freak on a leash, falling away from me, did my time, faget, here to stay, somebody someone, shoots and ladders, i think more than that, but i forget. jon played the bag pipes so danielle was happy, but no kilt. they just really rocked. i had so much fun.

ozzy…was ozzy. lol just like you see on tv. jumping around, throwing buckets of water, spraying hoses…shaking, looking disoriented etc. one part was really kinda sad, cuz it looked as if he had no clue where he was, or forgot the words or something. but he was good most of the time, as far as that goes. cant say what he played, i just know he played iron man, mr crowley, bark at the moon, crazy train, mama i’m coming home…and others i recognized but don’t know the names of. good show.

i love metal shows. they’re so much fun. partly because they are so cliched hahah.

now i don’t quite understand what the problem is, when leaving darien lake after a concert. how have they not figured out the correct way to do it, so you’re not sitting at a standstill in your car forever?? why have they still not paved all the concert parking area. cuz tonight, that turned into a huge problem. lots of rain = lots of mud. lots of mud = lots of cars stuck in the mud. including mine. we got to one part of the lot and we noticed the car in front of us was stuck. wheels spinning, going nowhere. we’re like fuck, we better not get stuck. but of course every car got stuck when you don’t have the momentum to keep moving cuz you gotta sit there sinking in the mud forever before the line of cars moves again. i thought i was ok, and then nope, car just wasn’t going anywhere. there were some guys standing around pushing people out of the mud. so a guy got us out, which was really nice. cuz he’s covered in mud now of course. my car…gah. it’s drenched in mud lol. we actually didn’t have too bad of a wait to get out. it was about 20 min. and the show was over and we were in the car by 9:30 lol. the wait was so much better than the STP wait which i swear was over an hour.

so home around 11, tired out. had to wash my feet, since smart me wore my sandals. i should have worn the asbestos shoes. oh well. ran into a kid from work who always takes me off my roulette game. he grabbed me and was like, we need you on blackjack. i’m like NO! hahah. i bought some earrings. managed not to spend any other money, no food, or souvenirs, or alcohol or anything. my earrings were 5 bucks.

i’m really tired. might be heading out to the terminal tomorrow afternoon with jerry. i want puddle pictures damnit! i got my case of film today, so i’m all set for another month now

Dave Gahan @ Koolhaus

before getting to today, i just uninstalled xp. it makes my comp run worse than it did before, esp in the internet department. but that means my net is set up wrong again, and eric, you need to come over tomorrow and fix it for me please. i’ll buy you dinner.

ok, today. i’m so glad we left so much extra time for all the traffic we DIDN’T ENCOUNTER! no traffic on the way in. we didn’t even really get lost. we got there around 3. the yahoo directions told us to take hwy 2, which is lakeshore drive, then the jarvis street exit. which would be fine if lakeshore had a jarvis exit…it doesn’t have any exits at all cuz its a normal street. but the gardner has a jarvis street exit. and would have been faster too. but we found it anyway. since we were about 5 hours early we ventured down town, parked in some lot, and walked up queen to yonge and got lunch and stuff. we ate at this movenpick marche place. it was really cool. they had all different kinds of stations and you went and found what you wanted and they’d make it there for you. i had a belgian waffle with strawberries and chocolate sauce. it was super yum.

so we killed time off and went back to koolhaus. which is not the same place that we saw orgy at, it’s the other part of the building. i think it’s a bit bigger. we parked in the lot across the street. it was 15$..ok. gave the guy 15$ and he gave us 40$ back. we’re like !?!? i was like, did you give me 55 to give him? i thought it was 15. yeah we gave him 15. well we just made a bunch of free money.

so the show. the opener was kenna and the new sacred cows or something. really good actually. then gahan. he played for almost 2 hours, 2 encores. it was really cool. i’m not too familiar with his new album, but i recognized a few. and he did a bunch of depeche mode stuff too. i think we counted 7 DM songs but we might have forgotten some. the entire end of the show, the 2 encores, were all DM songs. i’ll try to get a set list tomorrow.

i hate summer shows though, cuz everyone always smells. and i hate people touching me when there is no reason. if we’re up in front in the crush, that’s fine, but when there is plenty of room and someone is hanging on me, i want to scream. during “walking in my shoes” and then through almost the rest of the show, this guy who was making me nauseus all night (he was chewing some kind of gross strawberry smelling gum) started leaning on me. i kept moving over, he kept leaning on me. it’s like GET THE FUCK OFF ME. oh and then besides that, we’re waiting for the show to start and the most annoying couple ever is standing in front of us, constantly like, hanging on eachother and making out. i seriously wanted to go “i didn’t pay 50$ to watch you grope eachother, the bathroom is over there, just go and fuck already and get it over with”…then to top it off, another couple came and stood in front of us. and then a 3rd…AND THEN A FOURTH. by then i just yelled IF ANOTHER COUPLE COMES AND STANDS IN FRONT OF US IM GOING TO PUNCH SOMEONE! it was so bad. at least they were kinda good during the actual show. in my facist dictatorship PDA would be illegal.

dave’s band was interesting. the guitarist looked super familiar, kinda like colin quinn from SNL. the drummer was just weird, way too into it, and just…weird. and he looked like a fat, older, ugly ed norton. the bassist was missing teeth. lol. dave was dave. how can he not be gay? he is so….flamboyant. he’s got the mick jagger hip swivel thing, and then like, the elvis poses. speaking of mick jagger. during dave’s song “I need you” he started doing the stones “i miss you”…kinda funny. he held up some sign someone had that said “screw the stones we crave dave” haha.

so yeah. the show was good. very good. he sounded good. he’s got a great stomach/hip groovies *drool*.

we leave the club and go to the parking lot. i open my car door and a paper falls out. i picked it up and it was some power of prayer thing, so i dropped it on the ground. i go to get in the car and this guy goes miss!! i’m like…what, i littered, who cares. no it was the parking attendant guy. he said he left that note for me about the extra money he gave us LOL i didnt see the note on the other side of the ad. but he went on about how we gave him 15$ and he gave us 40$ back and how if we don’t give it back it’s gonna come out of his pocket and blahblahblah. well of course we spent half of it at the show on drinks (1 drink each) so we’re like, um…here’s 20. he like…looks devistated that he’s gonna have to pay for this mistake out of his pocket. so i offered him american money. we gave him 15$ more US hahaha. we’re like…it’s kinda creepy he remembered who we were, and that he remembered my car enough to leave the note, and then accost us about the money.

so we leave. after all the non existant traffic, we get to the border in an hour haha. we were home by 1. i saw a big ass bright shooting star. so i made a wish – for nate to be impotent.

time for bed i guess.

Lacuna Coil @ Showplace

omg *dies*

so. yeah. went and met heather in the falls, left her car in the ramp and came back to NT to eat dinner and prep for the show. got to showplace right before 8, and it was way more packed than i was expecting. ran into fred “kid rock lookalike” who liked me back in 99 when i was hanging out with julie. first band was some awful hardcore/death metal band from toronto. total suckage. 2nd band was “beyond the embrace” i believe. not as bad, they had potential. they sounded like…old metallica, and iron maiden…like, they had that epic metal guitar solo sound. the music i thought was good most of the time, but they had screaming vocals that i wasn’t digging. the 3 guitarists and singer all had long metal hair and beards, and the bassist was this clean cut kid who looked about 18. it was weird haha.

lacuna coil was 3rd and o.m.g. it was so great. i haven’t gotten chills like that at a show in ages. i can’t remember the last time. the girl can fucking sing. i was blown away. they played mostly stuff of “comalies” but maybe 3 songs from the other albums. one was one of the italian songs, i think “senzafine” but i’m not sure. gah it was so great. i almost cried it was so great. the music sounded awesome, and yeah…she can fucking sing (have you gotten it yet? she can realllly fucking sing). it was so cool. totally want to see them again, hopefully when they can play a longer set.

we left before the headliner, opeth. no clue what they sound like, i saw what i wanted to see and left hahh.

i totally want to be in a band now. i want to be in a band with that kind of sound. gaaaah. it was funny, someone was talking about how evanescence is just a watered down commercial version of lacuna coil. lol evanescence doesn’t hold a candle to lacuna coil.

i must say my makeup looked so kick ass, and i totally love my new concert outfit. yay.

and yeah, the guy from the casino who wants to take me out actually called today LOL. he called around 4:30 and i was like woah. he’s gonna call thursday when i have my schedule and am done with the cleveland thing.

tyler durden would be so disappointed in me. ikea is the greatest store on the planet. omg it was so great. we pretty much wanted to buy everything in the store. we spent an hour and a half there. so many things we want to go back and look at once we get our place and know what kind of room we have. and they are right, it is pretty damn affordable. there are still things (lots of them) out of our price range, but comparitively…way cheap. couches and stuff, for like 300+ cnd SUPER CHEAP. we bought 6 wine glasses for 5$ cnd, 12 drinking glasses for 7$ cnd. i bought 3 cute ice cube trays for 2.50$ each cnd. adr bought 2 shelves for 9$ cnd each, and a shoe holder thing for her mom. everything we saw we’re like “that’s so cool”…”we need that”…etc. so definitely going back with the station wagon when we get word on the apartment situation.

and speaking of that, i took heather by it yesterday, and the people have moved out. so we figure we should hear from the guy soon, if not by wednesday, we’re calling him. cuz that gives him about 2 weeks to repaint and recarpet so we can move in around the 1st. so cross your fingers that he doesn’t decide to give it to someone else.

gah. ikea!!
