sports

boo on the red wings. booo! poor penguins, they looked so sad. and almost scoring with a second left…man that’d have been great. ah well. season is over, we can get on with the schedule for 08-09 🙂

on the topic of sports. i saw kevin everett the last 2 nights. he was the buffalo bills player who broke his neck and was paralyzed on the field during the first football game last year. they had injected him with cold water immediately to induce hypothermia which saved his life. he was up and walking around like nothing ever happened, no cane, no assistance, and it hasn’t even been a year. really freaking amazing story. they thought he’d be a vegetable like christopher reeves, but nope. may not play football any more but wow. lucky man.

nin tix

got toledo tickets no problem. so now i think we’re done. til trent adds another date in there. definitely gotta think about travel plans now, since there is one day between toledo and nj. i wish it wasn’t so expensive to fly…

snuff

i dreamed ed norton had a sex change, that went wrong, and he was more like a hermaphrodite. w.t.f.

i finished reading “snuff”. it wasn’t as bad as i expected it to be. i wouldn’t say it is up to the standards of chuck’s first 3 books, but it wasn’t horrible. i liked it, but it wasn’t mind blowing. a bit of a twist at the end that i had sorta figured out already, and a twist that i thought was about to happen but didn’t. and i’m not sure i totally understand the ending, or at least the emotional meaning of the ending so i may have to read it again.

Ashes Divide @ Water Street

Ashes Divide at Water Street in Rochester.

Opener was a band called Inner Party System from PA. i thought they were pretty good. a very strong club beat, that uhntz uhntz beat, but with guitars and real lyrics – not just a few repeated words. young guys, good stage presence, seemed professional and not just hacks. i bought their EP cuz it was 5$. it’s not bad, but i think they were more interesting live. they played a half hour non stop, one song just went into the next.

eric arrived right before AD started, good timing hah. billy howerdel is SO skinny and alien like but such a good guitarist. he seemed very shy and not used to being the center of attention. he didn’t talk much, introduced the band, mentioned they’d be back for projekt revolution. they sounded good, i really like the album. i would like to say they played all my favourite songs, but they played the entire album so that’s sorta given. 2nd to last song he announced as a cover…and for the life of me could not recognize the song. until the chorus “if you don’t love me now, you will never love me again” and i thought wait, i know that, isn’t that fleetwood mac? yep. it was “chain” except it had to be the most rocked out version of a fleetwood mac song ever. i’ve heard the real song, and honestly i still can’t think that the AD music was the same hahah. if not for the lyrics i’d not have ever recognized it. it was really awesome. who knew fleetwood mac could be cool! 🙂 since they only have one album and it’s rather short i thought he might play some APC but nope. that’s ok. eric yanked a set list
Sword
Enemies
Too Late
Ritual
Stripped
Wish
Forever
Prey
Defamed
Denial
The Chain
Stone

stayed around for a bit after for billy to sign stuff. i realized on my way to the show that we saw APC open for NIN in toronto 8 years ago…EIGHT! jesus! i can’t believe “mer des noms” has been out for 8 years. so i told billy that, for lack of anything else to say when he signed my cd book.

the coldplay ipod commercial bugs me, because is he really TRYING to be bono now? that could BE bono in that commercial. stop it. bad enough you stole edge’s guitar tone.

speaking of bono, i had a strange dream that i was in london with ang, and sometimes cassie was there, sometimes jenn. we were walking around and we were near our hotel when we saw u2 – or at least bono and edge – standing around outside with a bunch of other people. bono asked us if we knew how long the side door of the hotel was going to be closed for. i told him it wasn’t closed when i had been in london last year (ha). he had a bit of attitude with us, which i expressed to cassie, but still thought he looked hot so i forgave him. later on walking around we ran into them again waiting to cross a street. edge was holding a banjo, or ukulele and would randomly play a few notes every now and then. i kept laughing cuz each time it made me think of the banjo version of “vertigo” (http://youtube.com/watch?v=edSOGPYp3xA). then bono was talking about being fat or something, and rubbing his stomach. so i patted/grabbed his stomach to see how fat it was, and i said it was comfortingly chubby. not too fat, but no rock hard abs or anything. he didn’t seem to mind. ha wtf.

also dreamed about terrorists at the casino.

snuff out harry potter

stef forgot to bring me more harry potter yesterday, so i gave in and bought the new chucky p book “snuff” (the real title ha). i read a random middle chapter at the store, and i still don’t expect to be blown away by it. it really does seem like more of the same, and that it almost has a “haunted” like feel – short stories wrapped in an over arching framework. we shall see. i need to finish “the bell jar” first.

bites

bbq tonight at brian and danielles. i stayed way longer than i wanted to, but oh well. i got bit by something wicked right above my eyebrow. it itched like crazy and felt swollen but i kept asking everyone if it was puffy and they said no. well they must have been smoking some amazing pot cuz i have this GIANT lump on my forehead now. i mean, biggest lump i’ve ever seen that wasn’t a tumor hahah. if i had a few more, and they were smaller i’d look like the lizard guy who had those bump implants put in along his eyebrows. now i reek of smoke and bug spray and my eyes are burning from the fire.

and my house smells again and i don’t know why. everything that could smell, ie cat box, is clean. i’m still convinced something is dead in the walls.

harry fn potter

so…i started reading harry potter. a few years too late but i’m really out of things to read, and i figured a big series will get me through summer. so i finished the first one a few weeks ago. i’m borrowing them from a coworker, and now that we can’t have books on the gaming floor it’s been harder to swap and get the next ones.

so in the meantime i read “i am legend”, which was only half of the book. the 2nd half of the book was all short stories that seem to have nothing to do with i am legend. i read the first 3, all creepy and supernatural but i wasn’t that interested. when ian was up last week and said he wanted to read it i gave it to him.

i also just finished the golden compass which i really enjoyed. more than narnia. and i have more of an interest in seeing the movie adaptation than i am of seeing the narnia movies. the 2 follow ups are on my bookmooch list but no one is giving so it’ll be a while before i read the others.

chucky p’s new book comes out this week (or maybe last week) but i’m not too interested in it. it’s called “smut” or something, and is about some porn star trying to break the world record of number of partners in a day. so you know, the usual chucky p book. and i’ve just grown tired of every book having the same theme. so i’ll wait to mooch it, or paperback, or whatever.

gas sucks.

in the last 4 hours gas at the Tops Market down the street went up 7 cents. WHAT THE FUCK! i guess those 10 billion dollars in profits just weren’t enough. seriously, what are poor people doing? because i remember back in the day, my poor ex boyfriend’s family would put $5 in gas in the car until they got more money, but that would get you 5 gallons. now you barely get one!

also spicy sweet chili doritos are gross. i bought them trying to find a good sweet chili chip that compares with the ones from mark and spencer in london last year and i have yet to find any. i forgot that doritos still covers the chips in nacho cheese despite the additional flavors, and that is nasty. but i keep eating them because i spent 3$ on the bag.

tix

got my mohegan tickets…all seats, boo. section 2 (which is center), row m. i expect this is much like vegas where alot/all the best seats are reserved for player comps. i wish i knew the CT players at work better so I could ask them to get me tix, but alas i’d feel very very weird about that, and i don’t know of any of our local regulars going to mohegan to play…ah well. with seats that means no line up and plenty of time to explore norwich.
