i just saw a delorian.
i’ve decided that if i really pay attention to the new tea party record, most of it could make me cry.
and it’s all related to this statement: “someone to call me love club”, which only leighanne will really get haha. *sigh*
and my current favourite song, besides “wishing you would stay” is “cold” by aphasia. it rocks so hard. and it’s one of 2 songs i remember them playing in toronto haha.
movie night was game night instead. played risk for the first time in ages…when packing it up james found sheets of paper in the box that recorded troop placement to restart a game between lindsay and i…considering lindsay moved to rochester in 95…that’s a long time since last playing…
i wonder what lindsay is up to…
i was woken up by fighter jets screaming passed the house. scariest thing ever. i was expecting a loud explosion or crashing noise. then i remembered there’s the air show here this weekend. oh joy…..
hahaha i got an email from “Mr Longshlong” roflmao that’s fabulous.
i really have nothing to say. sunday night dealing i got paid to watch the olympics in high limit. yesterday was uneventful. dealt for 45 minutes tonight before getting suited, and got to leave early afterall so i can’t complain. brendan talked to me way too much, and touched me and i wanted to throw up. tomorrow is movie night, thursday is PR meeting, and dunno what else.
the tea party album has grown on me. it’s not horrible. but it’s still not a tea party record. “wishing you would stay” is definitely my favourite off the album, but none of the songs have shot to the “fav ever tea songs” list…oh well. looking forward to seeing them live again though…whenever they come around here. i might even go to arizonas again, despite vowing never to go there again each time they play there. current friends who weren’t around during the last tour need to attend as well, because i think they will enjoy it muchly.
found out that this guy (old man) who i (apparently) turned down for a date (i don’t remember him really, and i definitely don’t remember him asking me out) is really filthy rich. i think that prompted a dream i had the other day about donald trump, he had some sort of interest in me (not necessarily romantic), and everyone was like, ew he’s gross, and i was like he’s donald fucking trump!! who cares!! lol. also had 2 dreams about vegas/gambling, i’m excited for the trip. and dreamed about nate, but i’m not going to get into that.
i’ve been sleeping til 3 ish cuz i have nothing better to do. have to take dry cleaning in tomorrow, and get my car washed cuz there’s icky polution on the window and i can barely see out of it if there is any moisture on the window at all (it makes big spots), and cash in my rebate check, and….i dunno what else in the after noon. maybe buy some groceries, we don’t have any food. incase james gets inspired to cook having food usually helps
i just ordered the minolta z3. we’ll see how this goes.
and in the spirit of spending loads of money. vegas is booked for october 18-22. we take the red eye out of vegas on the 21, arrive home early 22. nevada test site tour is on the 20th (i think, i gotta check again), and hopefully we can get tickets to the queen musical at paris “we will rock you”. tony might join us (me and lei) for a few days, sleep on the floor of our room. we’re staying at the tropicana. old vegas!! should be fun!
off to work
so yeah. ziggy was put to sleep today. i guess she sorta went insane lately. she had been sick, something wrong with her throat, but the vet ignored that. went through antibiotics and got a bit better, but then she went nuts. just acting weird, and refusing to come up to the house if she was outside, not eating blahblahblah. so i guess my mom decided to put her down. mom said she didn’t think she even liked the cat, but was shaking and cried when they did it. RIP ziggy stardust
anyone know how to make a baby rattle? trying to make a gift for jenn’s baby, i got a clear ball to fill with the stuff i want to put in it, but i don’t know what kind of handle to put on it, or how to do it. they should just sell kits. you’d think it’d be a common enough idea that they’d have a kit for it.
i finished “invisible monsters” and it’s still my favourite chucky p book. i tried to start re-reading “choke” last night and i could hardly get through the first 2 chapters. it’s just so not good. at least chucky p redeemed himself with lullaby and diary. but i went to the book store today and got 4 new books. one is a fannie flagg book, that hopefully is as good and funny as daisy may, and fried green tomatoes. a few others by unknown authors…well the one guy is the guy who wrote high fidelity and about a boy. it’s called “how to be good”. i didn’t want to get high fidelity since i still haven’t decided if i like the movie or not.
unfortunately my pictures of the rappelling did not turn out. i knew they wouldn’t because it was too dark and they wouldn’t let me use flash, so the long exposures just made them turn out all blurry. oh well. we’ll see it on tv next year.
i spent 7 hours at the terminal today with the discovery channel crew. they had done the tunnel filming with ed on tuesday night, today they did the above ground filming which included 2 of the “stars” rapelling down the empty light fixture holes from the catwalks. leighanne came along to watch. hopefully i got a few cool pictures of them doing it. they were going to let me give it a try, but i really just wanted to go home after a while, so when the time came for me to do it if i wanted to, i passed. then the sun came out finally, so instead of going home, i had to wait more for them to do the roof shots. it provided much entertainment for the local kids who shouted “jump” at them as they sat on the ledges up top. not that i didn’t enjoy my 7 hours there, but i hope they don’t need to do anymore shooting before they leave next week. haha. they have been good to me, bought me (and accomplises) 2 lunches, and today they paid me (!!), so i shouldn’t complain.
there are social activities going on tonight but i got a massive headache at the terminal which hasn’t gone away yet, despite taking 3 year old aleve i found in my purse and prescription pain killers when i got home a half hour or so ago. i might have to take a small nap so that i can function and maybe finally finish the BCT store and press kit….and do a load of laundry. and eat somewhere in there….maybe eating should be the first thing on my list…
Seven Circles album review
the tea party – seven circles
1. writings on the wall – am i listening to the tea party? this is not a tea party song. as eric said, it sounds like a stone temple pilots song. that’s not what i thought first, but i can hear that now. what captured me immediately is the guitar sounds like it’s a rage against the machine riff…it’s not a bad song, it’s sorta rockin, but it’s not the tea party
2. stargazer – this is not a tea party song either. wtf. i really wonder if someone else wrote these songs…it’s ok
3. one step closer away – again…it sounds like a stone temple pilots song. well at least the beginning…the chorus…back to rage guitars…and i dont like the chorus. it would be a cool song, creepy, haunting if they didn’t go into a fast lame chorus.
4. oceans – i hate slow sappy tea party songs, but this one is not as bad as the ones on interzone…er well…the chorus is as bad, but the rest isn’t haha.
5. luxuria –
best song on the cd. it just is so cool. classic tea party right from the start.
6. overload – another good song. yay. but back to rage guitars. jeff martin found a new guitar tone and used it way too much. and still has that weird STP sound during the chorus…
7. coming back again – a bit creepy sounding, like a godsmack song. decent
8. the watcher – ug slow and sappy again. they all sound the same…
9. empty glass – one giant bowie tribute…major tom, ground control, starman, diamond dogs, golden years…it’s decent as well
10. wishing you would stay – i like it. it’s different, again. features holly mcnarland as well. ok i really like this song. yeah, this is my fav song on the album. it makes me overly emotional haha.
11. seven circles – boring. instrumental at the end is nice though.
overall impression: disappointing. this is not a tea party record. it’s really not. of all the songs, in my opinion only 1 holds to their “sound”, and that’d be luxuria. the slower songs keep in form with their other slower songs, but i never really like them. as eric put it, it’s not like they can’t grow and change and evolve, but they do have a distinctive sound, and we expect an evolution of that, and not just an evolution into crap. as of now, i find the whole package rather boring. it lacks the cohesiveness of their other albums. there’s no grand epic largeness. it’s just a bunch of random songs thrown onto an album. it doesn’t tell a story, or seem to go together at all. so yeah…it’s not awful by any means, just not what i was expecting, and doesn’t meet my high expectations of the band. i’m sure it’ll grow on me, but….not all that great.
**
in other news. i have a really bad sunburn on my neck from sunday, and wearing clothes kills it lol. the collar on my uniform is going to murder me tonight at work.
woo it’s been a long 2 days… where to start
so the tunick photo shoot was on sunday. arrived at the terminal bright and early at 10am to process models and do crowd control, and fight protesters. i’m very disappointed that there weren’t any protesters LOL. surprisingly no one who sent mean emails and death threats to people involved in the project had the balls to actually show up on site. i guess the cause didn’t mean that much to them.
anyway. leighanne and james ended up participating in the shoot and i’m very happy and proud of both of them. rock on!
the entire thing was an intersting experience, i can’t imagine what it feels like to actually be a part of the installation.
i’m so happy that it went off without a hitch and everything was done so smoothly. it makes me really proud of buffalo that we are so cool to do something like this, and really make it happen. the atmosphere was nothing but love and respect and it was really touching (and i didn’t even see what was going on inside). my wacked out emotions almost made me cry when russell’s daughter was explaining what it looked like inside (she was in with the media, russell was posing – she quickly ran the other way haha). the few media shots of the event are incredibly beautiful and i can’t wait to see what spencer ends up using in the future.
unfortunately i was/am sick and had to call into work.
so after the event ended, 6 of us (me, leigh, james, adr, mike and paul) headed out for a late lunch at the towne restaurant on allen, then to fugazi for a few cocktails before the after shoot party at mickey’s back near the terminal. it was really great to hear the 3 of them (paul posed as well) talk about how the whole thing felt, and what thoughts they had and everything.
the post party at mickey’s was originally supposed to be for the CTRC and Albright Knox volunteers who helped during the day, but spencer ended up inviting anyone who was in the shoot to attend. so there was a much bigger crowd than anticipated. we just hung out and talked, and all that. met with the people from the discovery channel, and talked to the attorney who represents the church of the transfiguration (haha oops). james and i stayed til 12:30 ish, when i took him home for the night.
today brought the discovery channel people to the terminal to take their camera crew around and plan for the actual filming this week. james came along for that too. just the general wandering around the terminal stuff, up to the roof(s), and then back to the baggage tunnels. it’s been a year since i’ve really been around that side of the property so it was cool to see it again. went to lunch with them, then said our goodbyes. they’ll be filming later this week.
about the show…i am now glad that i am not a part of it (i had wanted to submit a tape to actually be in the show). it is not turning out to be what i expected, and seems much more scripted (and thus lame) than i thought a “reality show on urbex” would be. my initial concerns about letting them film in bct reared their head again, and i told them what i didn’t approve of. they seem to be willing to work within that, so that’s cool. and they’re not going to the psych center (though they did get access grrrr), so i don’t have to kill them
but they ARE going to the nabisco plant in niagara falls, and memorial auditorium which is just super cool.
so that’s about it. i’m exhausted. and sick. really, i am. i got a cold a few days ago, all stuffed up. and i don’t want to go to work today either, but i must. duty calls
when i go to the casino, if i win 20 bucks i’m more than happy. if i double my money i’m thrilled. someone at work tonight bought in on a craps game. they didn’t double their money, they didn’t even triple it. they made 1,000 times what they bought in for. no lie. and they gave it all back IDIOT! experienced casino-ites were discussing it, and they said it’s the biggest percentage win they’d ever seen. AND THE PERSON GAVE IT ALL BACK!
tunick art installation tomorrow. should be interesting.
from the negativity department…
i got my hair cut. i don’t like it. it’s too dyke-y short. whatever.
but i got to meet spencer tunick for all of 5 seconds, and it looks like i’ll be working with the discovery channel next week.
