Acoustic Econoline Crush

econoline crush – may 7, 2001 – buffalo, ny – acoustic Edge Session

I won passes from the radio for this show, even though I sorta was already going because Mary had gotten passes that she couldn’t use. But I tried to win them anyway, and did, so I took David and Eric took Adrienne. The day started off as one big headache. I had an exam at 3:30, Eric worked until 4:30 so neither one of us could pick up the passes from the station between 9-5 since we don’t live in Buffalo. So the DJ I won the passes from told me to call this number and tell the receptionist that someone else was picking them up and give them the person’s name. Ok well I got up and called and she connects me to the promotions director. Well that woman isn’t there, so I leave a message. I talk to Mary who is also worried about who is going to get the passes (David was supposed to). She tells me that I need to talk to the receptionist too, so I call back, and I tell the lady that I was told to talk to HER about it. She asks me who told me that, I tell her the DJ, she tells me no I have to talk to promotions, so she connects me again to the woman who is never there. Turns out I had the promotion woman’s email address from when I won godsmack CD from the station, so I emailed her and told her that I wouldn’t be able to pick up the passes and that David was going to. Hours later she emails me back and says no problem. David was able to get my passes, and Mary’s even though she never got through to anyone about it.

So Eric picked me up around 5, and we had to drive to NT to get Adrienne and David. We were already going to be late, but it didn’t help that we got stuck behind the world’s slowest truck on the 63. We finally get home, pick them up and it’s past 6:30 the time we were supposed to be at the Backstage Pub by. It said NO LATER THAN 6:30… oops. We got there a little after 7. They didn’t hassle us, THANK GOD, or I would have had to throw a fit. Some band, local I guess, called Superpimp was doing an Edge Session of their own as “opener” haha. They were good, not my style, but whatever. They finished, and half hour later EC played.

I thought EC did more than 4 songs, but now I guess they didn’t…hahah. They played My Salvation, All That You Are, You Don’t Know What It’s Like, and May I Go all acoustic. It was really awesome. The DJ running the show mentioned that he was shocked to hear that a band as electronic and plugged in as EC was going to do an acoustic show. Trevor talked about how they decide a song is good if it translates into acoustic form. The audience got to ask questions between songs…someone asked about the origin of the name Econoline Crush, and Trevor said something about how his dad had an Econoline van, and he and his friends would drive around in it during the teen years and stuff. Someone asked for a fun road story, and Trevor created a PG version of a story from the Kiss tour….someone asked why they thought it was hard for a Canadian band to make it in the US….that might have been it. Anyway, the songs were awesome acoustic, I was surprised they did You Don’t Know…it sounded really awesome though. I kinda was hoping to hear Razorblades and Bandaids or Tomorrow Starts Today…obvious choices for an acoustic set, but no luck this time…So after the set they hung around the bar, and eventually made it to a table near the door to sign stuff for everyone, I got them to sign my webcast pass, and my Brand New History cd book. Got another pic with Trevor. This time we found Dan and talked to him. He’s super funny, seems like he has a real good time doing shows and meeting fans and stuff. (side note, the bar played Blue Monday and Trevor was jammin haha woo hoo). So then they went to leave, and we went outside with them. The radio station photo dude took a few pictures of the band in front of the Edge van. Then the van’s alarm went off and Trevor took off running down the street to the bus. We talked to Ziggy some more, I requested they play Home tomorrow haha…

It was way rad…there was only about 30-40 people at the show, you could only get passes by being in the cyber club, and then being lucky enough to win them (or know someone at the station haha). It was definitely a cool rare thing…

Trevor’s Tour Diary entry – “The first show in Buffalo was the Edge103.3 “sessions” show which had the band play four songs acoustically and answer questions from the host Adam 12 as well as the audience. It was held at the Backstage Pub. It was
fun… we played “may I go”, “my salvation”, “all that you are” and “you don’t know”. The questions were good and
the audience was super loud and involved. ”

on to the next EC show…

Econoline Crush Niagara Falls

econoline crush – may 6, 2001 – niagara falls, ny

EC played a free show with 3 doors down at Niagara University. We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to see it, because there was no straight information about if the show was only for students or not. But we figured we’d try anyway, and good thing we did because we just walked right up to the barrier.

We waited around for the sun to go down so we weren’t blinded and EC came on. No one knew who they were. It was kinda weird. Me, Adrienne (who didn’t think she knew them, but ended up knowing some), Eric, Joe and his friend who I wasn’t introduced to, were the only people there practically who knew EC or the music. There were a few other random kids who were there to see EC. So they played their set, 10 songs (Surefire, Sinking, Trash, My Salvation, Sparkle and Shine, Make It Right, The Devil You Know, All That You Are, You Don’t Know What It’s Like, and Wicked with NIN’s Head Like A Hole inserted). It was great as usual. It has to be hard to play to a crowd who doesn’t know who you are, but they pretended they were having fun. hah. So we sang along with the songs, and made a lot of noise to make up for everyone else. As soon as Trevor came out all the stupid sorority girls around me were like “oh my god, he’s hot” and then whenever Trevor stuck his tongue out they’d scream. Kinda funny, kinda annoying. Trevor talked to the crowd a few times in between songs, mentioned something about how they went to see the Falls that day, and how it wouldn’t be his honeymoon destination of choice…but maybe it’d inspire you to… and then he started pelvic thrusting so all the girls screamed lol.

So anyway, they finished their set and me and Joe got setlists. We left our spot to go find them to sign stuff for us. Adrienne was kinda mad because she wanted to stay there for 3dd. But we left and went to the side of the stage near the busses and yellow police tape to wait around for the band. We saw Mark and Johnny walking around so we yelled for them (or well, Eric did haha). Mark came over, and he kept trying to get Johnny to come over. Mark was like “I’m the new guy you’re not supposed to know my name”. He signed a bunch of stuff for us and some other people who were standing around. Then he did get Johnny to come over and sign stuff. He talked to everyone for a while. We had to wait longer for Ziggy and Trevor but they came out and signed stuff, I got a pic with Trevor.

Then 3dd went on so I went over to the side of the crowd to watch with Adrienne, and gave Eric my setlist because he was going to wait to talk to Dan. So we watched the show, Eric and Joe talked to Dan and he signed stuff for us. He also told us in the event that we couldn’t pick up our passes for the acoustic show the next night, we could just find him and he’d get us in. So that was cool.

3dd finished, their set was good, same as always. They played, I think, every song from the record, and 4 new songs. Encore with Loser. It was their last show of the tour, I bet they just wanted to get it done and leave.

Trevor’s Tour Diary entry for the NU show – “Niagara, New York

Sadly this was our last day on the 3 Doors Down tour. We had such a great time playing with these guys that we
were dreading this day. This is the first band in all our years of playing that gave us a thank you card. Just a great
bunch of guys and a wonderful organization to work with.
We just wanted to mention some people that helped make the Niagara show fun. Ted for keeping the thing rolling.
Marybeth for all her hard work. Ziggy wanted to thank Nicole. Dan wanted to thank Joe and Eric and all their
friends (That would be us).
The crew guys for 3dd were great too! Special thanks to Gary and Lulu.

The show was outside and it was very cold but the audience hung in there. A lot of people from this show
followed us to Buffalo. The fan base is getting bigger day by day.”

That was it, it was cool, onto the acoustic show…

econoline crush webcast

econoline crush – march 30, 2001 – toronto, on

Mary got special passes for the webcast for being on the street team, and was nice enough to invite me to see the show. We got there way later than we thought, but it was ok since they didn’t open doors til after 10:30. Only problem was that I told Carolyn to meet us there around 8:30, so she had been waiting for a long long time. It turned out ok tho, because she ended up holding our place in line, about 5 back from the beginning! woo hoo. We waited outside for a while, and then doors opened. They gave us a hard time about our New York State IDs but whatever. We got in and got to the barrier. The stage was way small, probably the size of my closet room at school haha. We stood around and waited for the show to start, no openers thank god! They came on around 11:30. Oh my god. They are great live. Trevor is incredible. I don’t think I’ve seen any singer as sexy as he is on stage, it’s amazing. I don’t think you can appreciate Trevor’s hotness until you see him live, it’s indescribable. It’s sex on stage haha. Anyway. They played 11 songs: surefire, sinking, trash, my salvation, home, may I go, you don’t know what it’s like, all that you are, sparkle and shine, make it right, wicked. No encore, technically it was wicked, but Trevor said something about how since it was a webcast they weren’t going to go offstage and come back for an encore, just to pretend they had left and come back. hah. The show was awesome, the new stuff sounded great live. Looking forward to seeing them again. After the show Eric stole the setlist, and then we waited off to the side of the stage where the black curtain was, where the band was doing interviews. A few of them came out to talk to us, got autographs from the drummer. We waited a while longer for the rest of them (but they were at the private party as we saw when we were leaving). We didn’t want to wait any longer, since we had to drive home, so we left. Mad cool.

Orgy in Worcester

Orgy # 6 March 3, 2001 – Worcester, MA

Adrienne, Danielle and I woke up at Joe’s the next morning. We got ready to head to Worcester, and left around 2:30. The Palladium was easy to find, which was surprising. We had to wait outside for an hour, in the snow and cold. Stupid east coast winters. Doors were at 6, but they didn’t let us in until probably 6:30. We were frozen. They had the weirdest way of letting people in the venue. They picked people out of the crowd to go in, mostly from the front, but a few little kids with their parents were allowed in first. We got in, stood up front to wait through 3 bands blah. I hate openers.

We saw all of Tinfed this time. The crowd was rude as hell, telling them they sucked and to get off the stage. They aren’t bad. I don’t particularly think they fit in with an Orgy/Spineshank crowd, but whatever. They only play for a half hour or so, deal with it. Alien Ant Farm had microphone problems at first, then got settled. Crowd got rougher. Of the 3 shows, this crowd was the roughest… It was all little kids. I felt like a giant, because I was taller than everyone (except nomad girl next to/in front of Danielle). The little girl in front of me was probably 5 feet tall. I could rest my chin on her head (but that also meant, when she freaked out during Spineshank and Orgy, she could knock my teeth out). Spineshank was rough. It wasn’t too bad, because we were so squished, I didn’t really get hurt. Many more fans of them at this show than Albany. Same impression as before…The singer is hot, but still, the music is not my thing.

Orgy came on some time after that. This show was the best of the 3, but worst crowd. Little kids suck. The little girl in front of me, and her fat friend were really annoying. It was ok, since I could see over her head. But they freaked out when they got 2 of Amir’s picks. For some reason, they left with maybe 5 songs left. That was fine with me, because I got barrier for the rest of the show and the encore. Yes an encore this time. The set list was the same as the other 2 shows, except for the encore. They came back out and started Eva. Eva of all songs. I NEVER thought they’d do Eva live. It was awesome. After that they played Pantomime. It was way cool. I ended up with a pick Amir played with (half of the word “orgy” was rubbed off and its all chipped) and an Orgy condom ha ha. The whole show was just way cool. They seemed a lot happier than the night before, I guess Jay felt better. It was a lot cooler, because they’d open the doors of the theatre between each band to get the equipment out. Jay kissed Paige when they sang 107 together…um…there was just a bunch of way funny stuff they did.

Danielle had her Rough Cutt shirt on from 1984, and Amir saw it. He handed her a pick at one point. It would be an awesome show to have on video (so if you know of one, lemme know ha ha). During Blue Monday again, the Spineshank guy and Alien Ant Farm singer came on stage again. The Spineshank guy had a fur collared pimp coat on. After the show we stood around at the barrier again. The security was dumb about giving us stuff, saying they wouldn’t get the setlists for us. Whatever. We left after the show. We didn’t stick around for any of the shows because it’s too damn cold, and it’s really not that important for me to meet them. At least not that important that I’m willing to freeze to death. I was also getting sick at that point, blah. We drove back to Joe’s place, got back around 2, a lot earlier than we had thought, since doors were at 6, even with the encore the show was done earlier than the other 2.

Observations from the show

– Amir is so perfect. I noticed this at the other shows too, especially Albany. It was so hot but his makeup didn’t run, his hair was totally perfect even after the kept touching it to get it out of his face.

The weekend was awesome. Probably the best weekend of my life ha ha. How sad is that. It’s really weird that 5 people I don’t even know can make me so happy. Orgy is so addicting. People comment on the fact that they have the same setlist every night (which is technically not true). But every show is different, and they put on such a good show. I so need to see them again. YOU GUYS GOTTA COME BACK TO UPSTATE NEW YORK!

So in closing, thanks to Adrienne for agreeing to go (and you’re welcome for us converting you). Thanks to Joe for letting us stay with him in Troy. And thanks to Jay, Paige, Ryan, Amir and Bobby for making me so happy. Yeah yeah, sob sob, etc etc.

Orgy in Albany

Orgy # 5 March 2, 2001 – Albany, NY

After 2 classes a nap and another class, Adrienne, Danielle and I headed out to Albany for the 2nd Orgy concert in 2 nights. We were going to be late to this one too. We got to Joe’s house, picked him up and he drove to Northern Lights for the show. We got inside during Tinfed again. We got treated to some Alien Ant Farm again, this time assholes in the crowd started to mosh. Got pushed around a bit.

Then we got “treated” to Spineshank. Got pushed around a lot, ended up at the barrier. Good deal. Spineshank…blah. Totally unimpressed. Too hard, too annoying for me. Can’t even say I enjoyed one single song. But whatever, the pushing got me to the barrier so it’s all good. We were in front of Amir and Paige for this show. This show was better than Toronto. Same set list as Toronto. The setlist taped to the stage said Pantomime before Where’s Gerrold but they didn’t play it for some reason. It seemed from the show that Jay was sick. It was really hot in there, the guards went through 3 cases of water on both sides. Jay commented a few times on the heat, and how he didn’t know how we could stand it. During the interludes Jay went to the side to “rest”, cool off, wipe his face off etc. Amir came onto this speaker thing, and motioned that he was way hot and stuck his tongue out and laughed at everyone. It was cute ha ha.

During Blue Monday, the singer from Spineshank came out to sing in Ryan’s mic (oh, and Ryan took his shirt off cuz he was so hot, that was unexpected. Didn’t realize Orgy ever took their clothes off…always wearing damn long sleeves :P). Singer from Alien Ant Farm came onstage too. It was cool. No encore again after the show, we think because Jay was sick or whatever. We stuck around up front after the show to get “souvenirs” of the show. I got one of Amir’s picks. I think Danielle did too. Before the show I had seen Steph, who I’d been talking to online since I realized I had taken a picture of her at Orgy at Waterstreet 2 years ago. It turned out I was next to Tracy, who I also had talked to online, and Steph was right behind me the whole time with her other friends. I don’t think Tracy realized who I was, and although I said hi to Steph, not sure she realized either haha. Whatever. We had lost Joe during Spineshank, so we found him again and went to get food. Went to Denny’s like always. Our waiter was awesome, I commented on the different menu, and how I had stolen one from home. So he let me have it, and got me a Daytime menu. Ha ha. We headed back to Joe’s for the night to finally sleep.

Observations from the show:
– once again, can’t get over how huge Paige’s platforms are.
– Bobby’s drum solo is cool as hell.
– Ryan is ripped!

Orgy in Toronto

Orgy # 4 March 1, 2001 – Toronto, Ontario

After counting down the days, it was finally Thursday, and the Orgy weekend had begun. Adrienne came down during the day, and we waited around before going to pick Danielle up from class and head back home to NT. We picked up David and got our tix, and drove up to Toronto. It was an unusual experience, going across the border. The guard asked us why we were going to Toronto. David told him we were going to a concert. The guard asked who, and David said Orgy. After a strange look, he asked what kind of music to play. David came up with techno-metal. Good call. He shook his head, gave us another weird look and let us go.

We thought we were going to be later than we were, but doors were at 8, not 7 as we had thought, and we got there about quarter after 8 and had to wait in line in the cold snow and wind (since we were in the Great White North) for about half hour I guess. We found Carolyn easily, she had just gotten there too. Once inside we went to the bar area for the first bands. Carolyn, Adrienne and I stayed in the bar area because there was more room, and the floor looked really packed. I didn’t feel like fighting mean scary people to get up front. Danielle and David went into the crowd, and turns out people basically let them get to the barrier. Oh well, next time.

So when we got in, Tinfed was already playing. We thought they were Alien Ant Farm haha. They weren’t bad, but whatever. Alien Ant Farm came on after that, they were… entertaining. I spent most of their set staring at the balcony over the bar where various members of Orgy were watching the set. They played their “Smooth Criminal” Michael Jackson cover, which I thought was rad as hell, because I figured they wouldn’t play it. They asked the crowd if anyone liked Michael Jackson…Carolyn, Adrienne and I screamed haha, Danielle said she did too. They said they didn’t care if we didn’t like him, they were gonna play it anyway. It was cool.

Spineshank didn’t play that night, because they were finishing a video in California…no loss. Orgy didn’t go on until around 11, and played for about an hour. Set went something like this: vapor transmission intro, interlude, suckerface, dissention, chasing sirens, opticon, 107, fiction, gender, bobby drum solo (which sounds like Bjork’s “Army of Me”), stitches, where’s gerrold, blue monday… and another interlude thrown in there at some point. The show was great. Before Stitches, Jay asked the crowd if anyone had a bitch or asshole who they love and hate at the same time, when people screamed he said something like, you’re losers. I don’t really remember. At the end of the show, Jay said something about how we were the best fucking audience as always. They left the stage, and then Jay came back on and said something to the sound guy in back. Then he started talking to us, and told us that they were going to come out and do a few more songs, but the soundboard got fucked up and they couldn’t. He said something about how they’d be back with Papa Roach and to come see them again. Kinda pissed about no encore, because the other shows had no encores. Whatever. Danielle caught a towel which we thought was an unused one, but it turns out there’s makeup all over it.

We hung around for a few minutes inside, deciding what to do…leave or stay and wait around for them. We decided to leave, since by then it was after midnight and we had a 3-hour drive home. We left, got back to NT to drop off David, and drove back in a blizzard to Geneseo, got home at 4. We had another experience with the border guard, asking us who we saw, and more weird looks when we replied “orgy”. Ha ha. Anyway, we got back, and had to get up the next day at 7:30 for class… we’re good little students.

Observations from the show:
– Ryan is thoroughly entertaining. It was the first show that I got a good chance to watch him on stage. He is amusing as hell.
– I think that’s my only observation from that show.

Orgy @ Buffalo

December 5, 2000 – Orgy Show at 103.3 Misfit Xmas party

Oh my god. This was an amazing show. Danielle, Eric and I headed out to Buffalo in white out conditions to see Orgy play at the 103.3’s Misfit Xmas party. We got there around quarter to 7, had to wait outside in the freezing cold for 20-25 minutes. It was terrible. Once we got inside, it was fine, I could feel my feet again, it was all good. We got barrier thanks to Eric. Dust For Life played first, and it was more enjoyable this time than at Geneseo with 3 Doors Down (but being at barrier makes everything more enjoyable). The guitarist Jason was late coming on stage. We found out talking to him after the show that they had told him 8:30, so at 8:10 he went and took a piss, got a beer, and then saw the band was on stage. So he came in after the 1st song. We were on the other side of the stage from him this time, in front of the bassist. They’re a decent band, they put on a decent show. Better than Geneseo, like I said.

Between sets 103 did some lame ass stuff on stage, boring. Danielle and I had our pictures taken by 2 different photographers. One guy on a digital camera, I’m assuming for 103’s website, and one by a chick. I also had the skanky Chuck Norris wanna be security guard take a picture of us with my camera. After that was Lifehouse. Not impressed, but the absolutely beautiful lead singer helped a lot. The sound was bad, you couldn’t hear his vocals at all, but then again, I was having a good time just staring at him. Then after a forever wait, as per usual with Orgy, they finally came on.

The show was incredible! The set list went something like this: Suckerface, 107, Opticon, Fiction, Gender, Dissention, Stitches, Where’s Gerrold, Blue Monday/You Spin Me Round. Only 9 songs, which I was disappointed about that, but it was a radio show party thing. And they made up for it with the show. We were right in front of Paige the whole time. When they came out Amir gave us love, held out his hand for us to grab. Suckerface, not my favorite song off VT was a great opener. 107 kicked ass! I love that song, and it was awesome live. The new shit definitely is good live material, which some people might not think so cuz it’s not really as guitar driven like Candyass stuff was. Anyway, the whole show Danielle and I were singing, and we totally got Paige and Jay’s attention. They looked over at us all the time, Paige gave us tons of love. Jay looked over at us during songs that he had ad-libs too (Gender, Dissention, Blue Monday) to see if we knew them, which we did. At one point Jay came over and held his hand out to us for a while, which was rad. Then, I don’t even remember what song it was, but it must have been Blue Monday, he was having everyone sing, was holding the mic out to us and stuff. Then he came down off stage to the barriers and came right in front of me and Danielle. He walked by twice, and then stood up on the step right in front of us! Danielle’s face was right in his crotch (lol), he was getting totally molested (not ONLY by us LOL) and was loving it the whole time, big smile on his face lol. His shirt was soaked, but it was really rad material, it felt cool HAHA. I was surprised that we weren’t crushed when Jay was in front of us, or maybe we were and I just didn’t notice, I was too busy with Jay standing right in front of me.

So then he went back onstage, and they finished up Blue Monday (if that was the song they were doing at the time) with You Spin Me Round, which Jay looked at us to see if we knew that was next. We hung out at the barrier still after they left the stage, to get the setlists or picks or something. Someone had thrown flowers on the stage, so the stage people gave us parts of them. Then I asked the guard for the setlist but he gave it to this other 16 year old chick who had been flirting with him the whole time (it was an 18+ show). Then they got Amir’s extra pics and gave them to us. I got one with a G and I on it. (oh yeah, I also got a Dust For Life pick, and setlist.)

Then we walked around, I got a shirt, and we met the guys from Dust For Life. I got a pic with Jason the guitarist and the singer Chris. I got their autographs and the drummer Rich’s autograph. I was talking to Jason, and told him I had seen them at Geneseo, and he had no idea they had even played there HAHA. He said he liked my pants, and stuff, was all flirty. It was rad. Chris was talking about how it was the worst show they played, he got hit in the head with a drumstick when the drummer tried to throw it to the crowd. Then someone kept throwing Trident gum on stage. He was so funny, cuz he said something like how that guy was going to meet some girl and have bad breath and be like, damn I threw all my gum at that band! Rich was hitting on me, shook my hand all that stuff, and was like, yeah I saw you down in front. haha It was kinda funny. After that, we left to hang out by the busses. It was so damn cold we moved the cars to the side where we were standing, so we could sit in somewhat warmth until they came out. Eventually we left, after about a half hour probably, because it was cold, I had gross vinyl pants on and had to pee. The show was totally awesome, mad love from Paige and Jay, definitely better than the other 2 shows of theirs I’ve seen.

A few observations from the show:

– Jay has a really nice tongue… nice and pink and shiny. And he’s mad skinny. Small nipples as well,  not bad, just an observation.

– Paige’s platforms are huge

– When Amir comes on stage, he looks like a doll. Like a glam/goth Barbie

– Ryan has a really large head

3 Doors Down @ Geneseo

3 Doors Down – Dust for Life – Shades Apart – Geneseo, NY 11-18-00

Yes, that’s right, Geneseo actually had a decent concert this fall. The line up was  supposed to be 3DD, Dust for Life, Cold and Shades Apart. Adrienne came up  from Erie for the show, and Eric and Mary came down from Rochester. We spent  Saturday between the gym and my room. After lunch-ish we headed to the gym  to hang out around the busses to see if we could meet anyone from any of the bands. There was no barriers or anything from the direction we were coming from, so we walked past the busses and stood under an over hang with people who were working the concert (college kids, they can’t afford to hire real security). We stood there for about a half an hour, no one said anything to us. Then Brad from 3DD walked by, he had a hat on, and we didn’t realize it was him until he was past us, and went inside. So then a few minutes later, he comes back out, and no one would say anything to him, so I went “Hey Brad, can you sign some stuff for us.” He stopped signed some stuff, took a few pics and left on his little scooter thing.

Then maybe 10-15 minutes later, this prick kid working the show came over to us and asked us if we were allowed to be there, and I said yes, and he asked who said so, and I said, I couldn’t remember his name. So he was giving us a hard time, telling us we couldn’t stand there. So we left and went behind 3DD’s bus, and waited there for a few minutes until this other kid, who hadn’t said anything before, and we could tell really didn’t care if we were there or not, told us we couldn’t stand there either, and we had to go to the front of the gym. I was arguing with him, and asking what the big deal was, we were just standing there. He said some bullshit about how if something goes missing from the bus they get in trouble. I told him a huge lie and said that we didn’t care about going on the bus (haha yeah, me, not wanting to go on the bus!) and stuff, and asked how come real venues don’t have stupid rules like this about hanging out by the busses. He said they had more money or something than Geneseo. So instead of hanging out by the busses, we went inside the gym, no one stopped us. We stood around listened to the sound check, and saw Chris from 3DD walking around in the gym with his guitar. We got his attention and had him sign some stuff for us. Then we found out that Cold had canceled, so Eric and Mary were pissed off and pouting about that haha. So after standing around inside the gym for a while, and watching little kids play hockey in the ice rink, we went back to my room for a few hours. We had dinner, and David and his friends arrived, and we went back down to the gym to stand outside in the cold until doors opened.

For the show we got up front, 1 man back, stage right (or is it left? its right when you look at the stage). Dust for Life played first. They were all right, I took some pics of Blond Paige (lol he looks like Paige Haley with blond hair, but his name is Jason), the crowd was lame. Then this kid in a wheelchair drove up front right next to me and David. Who thought that was a good idea, I don’t know, because Shades Apart came on and the crowd got retarded. Shades Apart sucked, their music sucked, they were just stupid. The crowd seemed to know who they were and liked them, tons of crowd surfers. I spent the whole set trying not to get hurt, trying to make sure no one fell on the wheelchair kid, and listening to this mother bitch about the crowd surfers. She kept trying to get the security guards (the Geneseo rugby team) to tell everyone to stop crowd surfing (yeah right). At one point, someone almost got me in the head, and she told me “you almost got it to the head” to which I replied “yeah, well it wouldn’t be the first time”. It’s a concert, what do you expect? Anyway, eventually a crowd surfer landed right in the wheelchair kid’s lap, and he left, thank god. I was worried about getting knocked down on to him, and getting my back broken when I fell on the chair..

Anyway, after Shades Apart, I decided I didn’t want to stay in a retarded crowd like that for a band I’m not a huge fan of, so me, Eric and Mary left and sat in the bleachers for 3DD. The show was good, longer than the Rochester show, and they played 5 (I think) new songs. Brad still lacks a good stage presence, probably because he used to be a drummer. Overall it was decent, Adrienne and Danielle enjoyed it hehe. After the show, we came back to the room, and then went to Denny’s which was too packed, so we left again without any food.

STP @ UB

Stone Temple Pilots Saturday – October 7, 2000 – UB Alumni Arena

Oct 7th was the STP concert at UB’s Alumni Arena. Danielle and Adrienne came over in the morning so we could get ready for the show. We crimped my hair (it ended up way poofy, very cool looking), I wore my black vinyl pants, my rock star shirt, black jacket and my blue feather boa. Around 3 we left to go to UB to wait outside the arena, doors were at 6:30. It was cold, so we ended up sitting inside the doorway to the arena for a while before getting kicked outside again for the last hour. They had to lock up the building so that they could do sound check and stuff without us hearing.

So everyone was smashed outside in the cold until they finally opened the doors. We had to go through metal detectors, and of course, Danielle and I both beeped so they asked to look in our purse. While she was showing the guy her purse, I pulled out my cell phone, said that was all I had and left without them even looking at my purse. So we quickly got to the door to the seats, ran down the stairs and got front barrier. Eric, Mary, Karl and Kelly who didn’t get to UB until 630ish ended up finding us, and were a few people behind us. So we chilled up in front and waited for Liquid Gang to come on. They started at 7:30 and played for a while. They were really good, and I was really impressed. After they finished, they changed the stage around (and let me just say, they had a really good system. It only took about 10 minutes. The drum set was on wheels, so they just had to wheel it in, the guitars were tuned, and everything was quickly ready for Disturbed).

So Disturbed came on. The crowd got rough. Buffalo crowds are full of assholes. This was the worst show I’ve been to, crowd wise. Everyone was pushing, which is expected, but this was worse than normal. Being against the barrier didn’t help because there was no where to go. There was this really bad asshole between Danielle and David trying to push through the whole time. The guards were going to pull him out just because he was causing trouble but then left him. So the entire Disturbed set, I couldn’t breath, I was falling over without being able to fall because there were so many people all smashed together. Half the set I had a security guard standing in front of me pulling crowd surfers over the barrier (but that was OK, because anytime a security guard stood in front of me, I ducked and covered, knowing a surfer was near), or just monitoring the pit. Most of the time all I could see was a person’s stomach, and I was concentrating too hard on breathing and keeping my feet on the floor. I prayed for Disturbed to end so that I’d be able to stand up straight and breath. No such luck, because even after they were finished I wasn’t standing straight and was still stuck. Disturbed were OK. I was disappointed because I had heard so many good things about their show at Ozzfest, and how they were one of the best band’s there. Their set lacked energy in my opinion, and…how do I put this?…it was very WWF-ish if you ask me…The singer David looks like he could be a wrestler to begin with. The electric chair intro was cool, but very WWF-ish to me. And he was always doing that “suck it” D-Gen X thing. Danielle and David thought their set was amazing… I definitely would not say amazing. I’d say it was all right, better than a lot of stuff out there, but definitely not amazing.

So after Disturbed finished, they changed the stage again and the guys from Liquid Gang walked out in front of the barrier to talk to everyone and sign stuff. Well we were all stuck, unable to move at all. The guys in the band walked over to us, Kelly was able to get her and Karl’s tickets out for them to sign, the rest of us were too stuck to move. The singer Jose came over to us, Eric told him he was on the street team, etc. I shook his hand, and he complimented me on my boa. I ended up shaking all their hands, and telling them they did an awesome job. The guitarist Stinger ended up signing my hand because that was all I could move. He liked my hair. I talked to Chris the other guitarist, and I can’t remember if it was him, or the bassist Eric who had the tattoo on his arm that I asked about. It’s Chinese (or something) symbols, I asked him what it meant and he said basically that he wanted to be a musician. Craig was the last one to go by, and I told him they were awesome.

So then….we waited for STP to come on, everyone pushed the other way so we could all try to be standing straight. Danielle got pushed back and I ended up next to David holding on to the barrier for dear life. Then I decided there was no way I was going to survive so I had the security guards pull me out. I went back in on the left side of the stage and just stood there. STP came on, and it rocked. After a few songs I stood up on a chair in the front row of seats and it was perfect. I could see over the crowd, I could see the entire stage perfectly, and I’m sure it was way better than it would have been if I had stayed at barrier (for one thing, security would have been in front of me most of the show, and I would have died). Everyone else ended up leaving the crowd by walking out (or pushing their way out) instead of being pulled over the barrier. They ended up on the opposite side of the stage from me.

STP KICKED ASS!! They opened with “Crackerman”, they did a couple songs acoustic (“Sour Girl”, “Creep”, “Big Empty” I think), then went back to the normal stuff. They did the new single from “no 4” and “Down”, the rest were off the first 3 albums (only 1 song from “Tiny Music…”) During “Plush” Scott went into the right side of the crowd in the bleachers and let people sing with him. It was very cool. During “Dead and Bloated” (I think) David from Disturbed came out and sang with Scott, and that was very awesome. As an encore STP came back out and did “Sex Type Thing” (I think, god I can never remember set lists lol) and Scott wore an American Flag on his head. Then he decided to tie the flag around his waist and take his pants off. Well, first of all he didn’t tie it very good. Secondly I don’t think he realized that when he lifted his leg to get his pants off, that everyone on the left side (where I was) could see inside the slit of the flag where it was tied. You know what that means… I saw Scott Weiland’s penis…HAHA. At end, Robert (the bassist) went over to Scott and started to untie the flag, so Scott put his hands under the flag and over his balls, and Robert took the flag and danced around with it. Then Scott had to walk off stage naked, so we all got a nice shot of his ass. Haha.

The show kicked ass, it’s up on my list of one of my favorites (despite the bruises, and  complete bodily pain everywhere). So after the show, I had to find everyone else. I stayed on my chair and looked over the crowd to find them but couldn’t. The guys from Liquid Gang were behind the side barrier so I went back over there, now that I could move, to get their autographs. I got all except Craig, who wasn’t around there. I got Eric’s signature first (I had to explain that all I had for them to sign was a pad of paper from a Funeral home, they laughed about that), then Jose started playing with my boa and put it around his neck as we were talking. I was getting Chris’s autograph and I asked if I could touch his hair (it was all spiked, tons of gel, very cool). Then I had to chase Stinger up the seats (not sure where he was headed) but caught up to him and got his autograph. I didn’t stick around there to see if Craig was going to come out.

I left the inside part and went to find my friends. We had the possibility of going backstage after the show through a girl who works for 103.3 the edge so I figured they’d be by 103.3’s van. I was right, I found Danielle Adrienne and David, but then we had to wait for Eric and the rest because they went to look for me. So then we went back inside where Eric and them were buying merchandise. After we decided to head around back to see if we could meet anyone else in the bands. It was raining, which sucked, but that wasn’t my first time out in the cold rain waiting to meet famous people. Eric and them were ahead of me and Adrienne, Danielle and David, and we were walking behind the busses, which the area was blocked off with yellow caution tape. So I had the bright idea of going under the tape anyway. I figured what are they going to do? Kick me out? I’ll be no worse off if I do it, I’ll just end up behind the tape again. So Adrienne followed me, along with Danielle and David, and very spy like, we walked in between the busses and stood around with some other people who had the same kind of idea. Eric and them left, I guess. I got to see inside one of the busses finally!

So then a cop/guard came and told us all we had to leave and go behind the tape. So we started to leave but I went in between the busses and decided I wasn’t going to leave. Adrienne and I ended up “hiding” behind one of the busses, while everyone else went behind the tape again. There were pine trees we were standing under behind the bus, and then 5 guys who had the same idea joined us and we stood there talking. Then more event staff and cops came, and they told the people behind the tape they had to make sure to stay behind it. 3 of the guys with us went behind the tape, 2 others hid between the busses again, and Adrienne and I stood there. A bunch of the event staff people saw us there, 2 cops looked right at us, and no one said anything. I kept joking around that if we don’t move they can’t see us, you know, like the Tyrannosaurus Rex. So for about 10 min we stood there without anyone bothering us or asking us to leave. Then finally one of the event staff kids asked us if we had passes. I told him we did, but we lost them. He said if he didn’t see a pass he’d have to ask us to leave. So we said OK, but then just stood there. We jokingly argued with him about bribing him, and he told us that he’d get in trouble if he let us stay there. But we just stood there. We waited for about 5 min, and he kept telling us, “you’re not moving”. I said yeah, I know.

Finally Adrienne and I went behind the yellow tape. We ended up talking to this girl and her boyfriend, the girl was a singer and wanted to sing for Jose. Then there were 3 boys next to us who had caught Scott Weiland’s towel and were waiting for him to come out and sign it for them. They were really cool. Then David from Disturbed came out, he came over to me first and signed my paper I had, and I shook his hand (my hand was freezing). He signed everyone else’s shit, and left. We decided to leave, STP doesn’t cater to their fans much, and it was cold. The 3 guys invited us back to their dorm room to party, but we had to go. We drove home, I managed to get my pants off and inspect my bruises. The show was awesome, but a very asshole filled crowd (most of the people we had been up front with had left during STP, even the annoying kid with the “Still Remains” sign). Definitely looking forward to seeing STP again eventually…and Liquid Gang (they just impressed me beyond belief… and they were so nice).

A Perfect Circle Boston

August 18-20, 2000

August 18th, Danielle and I headed out to Boston to see A Perfect Circle in concert. We made plans for where to stay, and all that jazz, only we didn’t have tickets to the show. We figured we’d get scalper tickets, and go anyway. So we left around 7 am, after getting breakfast at McDs. We stopped to eat twice. We were starving, and so we got off at an exit in Mass, but it just turned into another expressway, and then into another one. We got off that and ended up in a mall parking lot, but I managed to get back to the Mass Pike without getting any food. After that small detour, we made it to Belmont, where we were staying, around 3:30. We got pizza, and made plans to take a taxi to the show. Debbie drove us to the subway station at 5:30 to catch a taxi to Avalon, which was in Boston, across the street from Fenway Park. The taxi driver, who didn’t speak English, dropped us off at Kenmore Square, because Lansdowne St. (where Avalon was) would be too crowded. So he pointed us in the direction of the street and we walked to the venue.

When we walked up lots of people were outside looking for tickets, and we found Krista and her friend Sarah. They needed one ticket, and ended up getting it from this guy with a stuttering problem. They went inside, and left us out to find tickets. We ended up getting some free promo stuff, the Mer De Noms 4 song sampler CD, and the Sunna sampler tape. We walked around and asked a few people. One guy offered us backstage passes. I asked to see them, and he showed me, but it was so generic it was obviously fake. So he said he’d try to find us tickets, because he felt bad we had driven so far to see the show. Then we ended up getting our tickets from the stuttering guy. It felt like a drug deal. We walked down the street a bit with him (away from the cop who had been sitting in front of Avalon. There was a baseball game too, so there were lots of people selling tickets), he gave us the tickets, we gave him the money and pretended nothing happened. So we went inside, by this time, very low on cash. We passed the merchandise for sale, and saw a shirt we NEEDED to have. So Danielle got money out of the ATM for them. We got our shirts, and headed inside the bar area.

We made our way closer to the stage on the floor, and I was looking for Krista. I had given up and was just looking around the club when I saw her standing on these steps that went from the bar/table area to the dance floor. So we pushed our way through the crowd over to her, and got on the steps with the people who were over there. We could see great because we were higher than everyone else, but we were right in front of the speaker. Sunna was the opening band, and they were pretty good. Just really, really loud, so I was totally deaf after their set. Next to us was this guy who seemed really nice, cuz he helped us onto the steps, and stuff, but he turned perverted. He was trying to get between us girls, and ended up almost groping Danielle during A Perfect Circle’s set.

So anyway, Sunna played, and left, and APC set up their stuff. A black translucent curtain fell in front of the stage, and we waited for the show to begin. After a long wait, 2 women walked on stage, sat at a table and lit a candle (so we could see through the black curtain). They played some card game, and whoever lost took a piece of clothing off. The point of this, I don’t know, but of course the guys loved it. So they got down to their underwear, blew the candle out and left. Then APC finally came on. They opened with “Magdelena”, half of the song performed behind the curtain. Then the curtain fell and it was just so way cool. After ‘Magdelena” was “Orestes”, and ‘Sleeping Beauty”. I have no idea the order of the set, but I know they played everything except “Renholder”, and they added “Diary of a Lovesong”. They closed with “Judith”, as expected. It was so awesome to hear everyone scream “fuck your god” along with Maynard during that song. During one of the first songs, people were pushing everyone on the floor, and everyone on the right side of the stage (where we were) fell like dominoes. This caused everyone on the steps to fall too. I think I was one of the last people to fall, but this guy fell on my leg, which was caught between him and the steps. I’m so lucky it didn’t break, cuz this guy was really heavy. My leg hurt a lot, and I thought I was bleeding, but this hot guy in a black mesh shirt helped me up. Danielle asked if I was ok, and I was. So we watched the rest of the show which kicked ass. It was one of the best shows I’ve seen. Maynard’s vocals sounded incredible, and everyone played with such excitement and passion. It was incredible. Maynard had a blonde wig on instead of the brown one he had been wearing. He talked to the crowd a lot, about living in Boston, and his reason’s for writing Diary of a Lovesong (to mediate his liking of Black Sabbath and the Cure). Paz had “D Lohner” written on her bass. I tried to get pictures of it, but even though I was close, I was too far away for the writing to turn out good. After the show, we got out of Avalon, and it was raining. We walked to the Square where we had been dropped off to get another taxi home. This guy didn’t speak English either, yay. So we got back to Belmont, and put ice on my leg. I had a big red welt, bruise and brush burn near my knee, inline with where the edge of the top step would have been, and a big bruise on my ankle where the edge of the lower step was. I am so damn lucky I didn’t break my leg. It hurts like a bitch.

Saturday Debbie and Kenny took us to Harvard Square to look around and shop, and to Newbury Street. We had dinner at Friday’s on Newbury. I bought a bunch of used CDs at one shop. At the Tower Records in Harvard Square, they had a big APC display of the promo poster, and album flats pasted onto one of those Styrofoam tack boards. I asked the guy if I could have it since the concert had been the day before, and they didn’t need to advertise it anymore. He asked me if I was trying to convince him, or myself, and I said him, so he told me to get it out of there. So Danielle and I took the display, and are going to use it at school. At Newbury comics, I asked for a few more APC album flats. Saturday night we went back to Belmont and watched “The Jackal”. Good movie. Sunday we got up early and headed back home around 10. We stopped to eat at the same McD’s we did on our way home from Salem last Halloween. We got home around 5/5:30.

It was an awesome trip, and an amazing concert despite the leg wound.
