I’m all for free speech, free thought etc. but i just read this article about Paul McCartney and PETA (people for the ethical treatment of anmials)…apparantly PETA is conducting an anti-milk campaign and going to schools and telling kids to stop drinking milk because it will give you pimples, and “handing out trading cards to school-age children that feature characters including “Phlegmy Phil,” “Chubby Charlie,” “Windy Wendy,” and “Spotty Sue,” which tell children that they too will suffer from the ailments listed is they drink milk.”
It’s one thing to try to expose the mistreatment of animals and try to change people’s views on eating meat. I can understand that. Show pictures of beef cattle in factory farms, and chickens with their beaks cut off in tiny cages that they can’t move in. Fine. But when you are purposely misleading children about your “cause” that is just wrong. And what alternatives are you offering these poor kids, who are going to run home and refuse to drink milk with their dinner. Did you hand out trading cards that say “Oscar Osteoporosis” because that’s what you’re going to get if you don’t drink milk. Or what about “Rotten Teeth Rodney” because they now drink carbonated beverages that leech the little calcium they are still getting out of their teeth. Where are the studies showing that drinking milk causes pimples? Because when I’m at school I don’t drink milk, and I have the same number of pimples that I have when I’m home and my mom makes me drink milk.
Kids are so impressionable that you could just as easily show them the “horrors” of being a milk cow and make them stop drinking milk. This deliberate deception really pisses me off.
And what is so bad about being a milk cow. Danielle worked at a farm over the summer. Cows came from their pen thing into the milking parlor, machines were hooked up, machines were unhooked, cows went back into pen thing. Oh the horror. While she said she can see how people might not think that being in a pen is good, as opposed to being out to pasture, she said the cows are treated really well and that it’s not cruel. And don’t you know that if you don’t milk the cows and they don’t have a baby to feed they will die.. ok i don’t know if they will DIE, but it’s really bad for their health to not be milked. So what is the problem with milk?
I really tend not to agree with the practices PETA uses to try to change opinions. This one really pissed me off. ARG i’m just so frustrated i don’t even know what to say about it.
now on a funnier PETA related note (dunno what it is with all these PETA articles i’ve found) they’re mad at britney spears because she wants to use cheetas on stage for her MTV performance tomorrow:
“The New York Post reports the spotted cats are supposedly going to be prowling the stage around the scantily-clad popster (and self-proclaimed virgin) (HAHAHA) as she wails her new hip-hop-flavored tune, “I’m A Slave 4 U,” while simulating an orgasm on stage à la Madonna.”
“While it won’t be quite as dramatic as Russell Crowe fending off those striped felines in Gladiator, and the cheetahs won’t be harmed (except if you count Britney’s singing)(HAHAHAHA), PETA believes the use of wild animals for stage trickery is cruel. ” – bolded emphasis added to text in the article, italics are my comments haha
