if i carve a pumpkin to look like sarah palin and then jam a knife into it for display, will that be considered offensive? 🙂
ugh
omg i so can’t wait for the election to be over. i’m so sick of ignorant people confusing things. obama is not a secret muslim (and so what if he was). obama is not a communist. he is not a socialist. and socialism does not = communism. there are plenty of socialist policies in many important countries out there, like most of europe, that does not make them socialist. and i really doubt that the idea of “sharing the wealth” is going to mean we’re all going to end up working on commune farms with fellow comrades like soviet russia. give me a fucking break.
there is such a thing as democratic socialism.
bubba
i still love bill clinton.
watching cnn they had a ticker line that said there is a large number of newly registered voters in NY that have yet to be added to the voter rolls for tuesdays election…which makes me wonder if i’m going to have a problem come tuesday…i’m registered, voted many times the last 10 years, but i sent my new address in to the dmv/election board right after i closed on the house the first week in sept, and my polling place is still listed with my old address. i’m going to go show up at the old place (Gratwick) instead of what the new place would be (board of education bldg) and hope for the best. no one i know has received their voting reminder postcard with their polling place either, which is very odd. i’m not screaming conspiracy here, because in NY it’s really not going to matter being a blue state and all, but still…it’s just odd. maybe they’ve just been so busy with all the new voter applications they are behind and all will be sorted in the next 6 days…
in 6 days i hope to never hear the word “maverick” ever again
yuck
so Trent has disabled my youtube slide show for Central Terminal because i used Leaving Hope as the background music and thus infringed his copyright. I wonder if i was to use a ghosts song, which is creative commons, if it would get shut down….I realize HE probably has nothing to do with this, and it’s interscope or some other entity but i’m still really annoyed.
Oops
i’m in trouble…i got a big huge speeding ticket. i need a lawyer. 51 in a 30. i had no idea i was going that fast. i’ll easily go 40 in a 30 but 51? wtf is wrong with me. phill is going to talk to his lawyer from his last ticket tomorrow, or i’m going to give paladino a call and maybe he knows someone (i don’t expect someone like him to go to traffic court lol). but the cop said it’s probably 6 points, so insurance would shoot up. but someone else said 6 points you lose your license…aaah!! not telling parents. *edit* apparently 11 points is a suspension, 6 isn’t. but my ticket is 6 points. and apparently i can take a DMV approved accident prevention course. that might have been what phill took, it was every week for like 6 weeks, not just the one time 5 hour course. i feel slightly better now.
in other news, sabres somehow won tonight. down 3-1 and miller scored in his own net, but we came back with 4 min left and won in overtime.
??
omg…i just saw a tv commercial for a vibrator…the trojan brand personal touch on the travel channel. it’s only 11:30pm! wtf!
Pigeon trophy ;)
how freaking adorable is this….
The Sabres are off to a flying start. Whether they win or lose, that will continue all season.
The Sabres’ equipment staff recently purchased a stuffed pigeon and placed the team logo on the wings. The players have begun awarding it as a trophy, giving it to the player most deserving of an honor from the previous game.
“You always have something to make it interesting and have some fun with it as well,” Sabres goaltender Patrick Lalime told the team Web site while explaining his former team, Chicago, had a tomahawk it passed out.
The pigeon came out because of a statement made by defenseman Jaroslav Spacek when he joined the team two seasons ago. The players were looking for another card player, and Spacek said he was ready to take cash from the “pigeons.”
The bird will accompany the Sabres (5-0-1) on their trip, which starts Thursday in Minnesota and continues Saturday in Colorado.
“It has to fly behind the plane,” Spacek said. “It’s got to come find us.”
And when it’s located, it’ll be in the locker of the hottest player.
crap
arg…new vacation policy at work. alot of us have our anniversary date, and thus resetting of vacation, in december. every year around this time they do the “vacation lottery”, which is the only thing at work based on seniority. you can ask for certain weeks vacation now and those highest in seniority get their preferred weeks. most people used it for busy weeks, like christmas/new years and other holidays. i’ve never used the vacation lottery because i never really know when i want to go on vacation so far in advance, and it’s usually not popular weeks like that.
new policy…if you have 3 weeks vacation you can only take 1 of those weeks as individual days. suck. but even worse, i have to ask for my remaining 2 weeks vacation…get this.. NOW. even if i don’t want to take advantage of the lottery, i have to submit my vacation time, for 2009, by november 5th. w.t.f how am i supposed to know what i want to do and when next year? and someone joked, yeah how do you know when trent will be on tour, haha, but regardless of that…still, no idea when i want to go someplace or where i want to go. and i really don’t want to plan out a vacation that is 8 months away. so i have no idea what to do.
we are allowed to change the weeks we ask for, but when we cancel the week, we have to submit a new week at the same time. ok, that’s not so bad but the whole point of this new policy is to make it easy to do the schedule…how is it going to be any easier to do the schedule when you have people changing their vacation week constantly? how is that any different than letting us pick our vacation any time we want (with 2 weeks notice, as is typical). it’s also supposed to make it easier for people to get the time they need, because policy favors people who take full weeks over people who take single days. alot of people this year, myself included, ended up getting vacation time canceled because all the slots for weeks off filled up at the last minute. but i don’t understand how this is going to make it any easier, since most of the time people taking individual days and not weeks were for weddings and things like that, when you don’t know a year in advance that it’s even going to happen. so they’re still going to be using their one week for individual days, and still have the potential of losing those days at the last minute because people can keep changing their vacation week even tho we have to put in for them now….
it just doesn’t really make any sense to me. i SORT of understand restricting the individual days to only one week, we are going on our 6th anniversary so many many people have earned 3 weeks now, but it still sucks. the only time i’ve needed an entire week off for vacation was the european trip. otherwise i like to take a day here or there, to make a 3 or 4 day weekend to go somewhere. i don’t need 9 days off in a row (5 vacation, plus 4 regular days off around it). i doubt i’ll have the money to do any huge trips, like europe or someplace, next year but i don’t want to take 9 days off and just sit home…
anyway….took some crappy pics of the house today on the point and shoot cam, wow it’s so not wide angle…they’re up on facebook click here.
CTRC Award dinner
last night the CTRC received the 2008 Niederlander Award for outstanding cultural programming from the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society. so 5 of us went to the awards dinner at the museum. i was mike’s date, so i didn’t have to pay $150 to go haha. the dinner was in the…lobby i guess…of the building with a bar on the back porch. it was nice, even if i had to dress up and wear heals etc. it was sorta funny though, before dinner mike and i were talking about how we can’t eat ugly food like seafood, and chicken on the bone etc, and then they serve us dinner…chicken on a bone. we just looked at each other. how appropriate. but it was really tasty, and easy to eat, thankfully. mike accepted the award and had to give a little speech. no big deal.
the museum has a neat exhibit on presidential campaigns, with artifacts like pins, ribbons, etc that they used to advertise just like now. there were some great womens suffrage pins on display. they should make reproductions, i’d buy them.
which reminds me i’m still waiting on my obama pins from moveon. i actually paid for them, didn’t just mooch them for free, but they haven’t arrived. my mom who mooched got hers, and i mooched a sticker and got that, but not the pins i paid for….arg. they keep emailing me asking if i got them and i keep telling them no. the election will be over by the time they arrive.
my couch arrived yesterday so i can get the living room more settled and decorated. i hate the green walls but am really too lazy to paint. i feel that none of my wall art goes good with it, or goes good with anything in the house anywhere. it just doesn’t feel right to hang things from abandoned buildings on these walls.
Hockey
first game of the season, and i had absolutely no faith in my sabres. i bet phill that we’d lose…so now i owe him a pretzel cuz we won in a shootout!! YAY A SHOOTOUT! nothing like a shootout win in the first game to give miller some confidence. we scored 2 and montreal scored zero in the shootout so it wasn’t even a close one. we can score and stop them now yay. it had been far too long since the last game, it was exciting to be in the building again.
bad thing…they’ve replaced the dippin dots with those crappy imitation ittsy bitz. and they are not good! they come in little prepackaged bowls, with 3 crap flavours – cotton candy, cookie dough and cookies and cream. and they taste crappy. if we had ended up losing i wouldn’t get them again, but now with a win i have to. but once we lose, no more crap dots. will switch to nachos. phill was mad the arena switched to coke products. what is this place coming to!
went to pearl street with pat, heather and brian before the game. we had terrible service. they reordered drinks when we ordered our food…ordered them again when we got our food…and didn’t get them til we were finished. waited forever for ketchup. in general just bad. we only gave her a 6$ tip on a 100$ bill…sorta felt bad, and yeah it was busy but come on, a half hour for 3 beers and some ketchup? they gave us a comment card that brian filled out, maybe he’ll get sent some gift certificates or something haha
go sabres!
